1967 (maybe 68?) Steering Column Assembly...

I recently decided to rebuild my 67's column (automatic) and have found very little info on these 67 (possibly 68 as well) columns, as they are a bit different.

The lower section seems to be the most different, so here are some pics for future reference, for anyone who runs into an issue figuring out how it stacks up:

Re: 1967 (maybe 68?) Steering Column Assembly...

Here's some of the assembled look... the 3/4 'band' clamp/brackets hold the lower bearing retainer and the shift arm assembly, I offset them just because that seemed to make sense to me. I gave everything a skim of wheel bearing grease before assembly, to keep them from drying up or corroding.

Very nice. I will probably be doing this soon on my 67. Thanks for the info.

Re: 1967 (maybe 68?) Steering Column Assembly...

The steel washer and white plastic bushing are not supposed to be installed there. There should be a gap in that location instead to allow the shift rod arm to disengage from the detent plate when you pull the shift lever toward you.

The steel washer and white plastic bushing belong up at the top end of the column, below the piece that the shift lever attaches to.

Interesting - I will correct tonight. Thank you for the clarification!

Mods - if you can delete my original photos, I will correct and repost.

That's really nice. Where did you find such a low mileage column? The shifter detents look brand new.
