Re: 69 K10 with Factory 396

This is right up there with factory 421 GTO's!

Never ever trust a new SPID unless they still have the old SPID along with it or original build sheet that matches the new SPID and all the numbers match up.

Hang on now...I don't know the exact years...64, 65. 66 maybe. DeLorean teamed with Jim Wangers and had "Press" cars built for the magazine writers to test drive. Only maybe 2 per year, and it may have only happened for 2 years. Of course this was NEVER publicized back then, or maybe even known till not many years ago. The factory 389 cars ran great, but the 421's were even better!!!

There's a member on the Performance Years site that owns one of these "Press" cars, his user name is Tenney. THAT would be a cool car to won!!!

I may have to start a thread over there about this...Curretnly have a thread about Smokey and Bandit that's getting interest...

Re: 69 K10 with Factory 396

I have spent hours in conversations with John Sawrauk and Jim Wangers. And I am aware of the engineering test cars that rolled out of the back doors at GM (and other manufacturers) that may have gotten into the hands of the marketing department for illicit purposes. But they really aren't what you should call "factory" cars.

I agree. But they were not crushed after use, like many test mules...If someone at a car show tells me they have a 421, special ordered GTO, I will call BULL on that...
I got to talk to Jim Wangers a couple of times, years ago. Wish I had read his book BEFORE the last time I talked to him, for the most pertinent questions. Wish I had been in Denver in either 95 or 96 when there was a POCI event there. Smokey Yunick AND John DeLorean were there, and spoke....

I want a thread where ads are posted and then Ken divines what the truck really is...Carnac style. But the catch is, poster has to know the truth. It can be a "Stump the Schwab" kind of thing. I'll get the popcorn going...

I call BS on this truck being a one of six special deal for reps. It's actually the only one and it was Vic Hickey who ordered it. He signed it and everything, but the painter never heard of him and sanded it off. Fortunately someone saw what he did just as he got it all off. They managed to sweep up the paint dust and preserve it in a jar, which is provided for proof.

That is not uncommon...usually means the cab mount bushing are in need of replacement. When they get old, they compress and the misalignment is the result due to the cab being rubber mounted and box hard mounted.

Re: 69 K10 with Factory 396

I heard some idiot bought this rare truck, put emblems on, installed a 350/NP205 with '69 date codes, and correct '69 mirrors. What a fool! Some guys have more money than sense! Not me. I don't have either
