Re: Tailgate letters
Sorry, my gate is not in a position to get you measurements of the stock letter placement. But I can tell you that I purchased the readily available (fairly inexpensive) white vinyl Chevrolet tailgate letters for my stock gate. We painted them before application with the main body color single stage PPG Concept acrylic urethane paint used on my truck. The results look great IMO and it matches my truck exactly. There are some pics in my build thread. As my truck is not on the road yet I obviously have not had a chance to test long term.

Re: Tailgate letters
Can't help with your spacing question but have done the vinyl letters. Put the vinyl letters on my truck 2015/16 and still in perfect condition. Dipped them in soapy water so can get into position then squeeged the rest of the water out. I dont how long the first set of vinyl decals were on the truck but were peeling and chipped so removed and put on the new ones.

Re: Tailgate letters
Here’s mine painted, I had someone do it for me, I didn’t want to try it.
