New gas gauge dilema
Old gas gauge worked correctly!replaced because of bad looks, Installed new gas gauge from GMC PAULS ,I believe it is where it needs to be,But when I turn off switch it goes to 2 oclock.Any thoughts or suggestions.Jeff

Does it read correctly with the ignition on ? new sending unit in tank ? Always post pictures of any problem you have .

When the power is removed (ignition switch is turned off) where the needle points is of no importance, and it's "resting position" is no indication of whether the gauge is functioning correctly or not.. Any troubleshooting when the ignition is off has no indication of faulty operation, and the results are meaningless..
The question posed by Grumpy is all important.. Does the gauge indicate correctly when the ignition is on??? |

all is new in the tank and was working correctly,If this is how the new gauges work I am good with that, just do not want to put it together and to take it apart again.Thanks Jeff

It might be good to determine if the gauge moving to 2:00 is a mechanical characteristic of the gauge or if there is still power running to your gauge cluster when the ignition is off (this could cause a battery drain issue). If you disconnect the gauge electrically from the truck and push the needle to the empty position, does it move back to 2:00 on its own?
Edit - An easier way to test this would be to turn on your ignition so that the gauge moves on its own to indicate the fuel level. Then disconnect your battery negative terminal and see if the gauge still moves to 2:00. If it does still move to 2:00, then it is a mechanical characteristic of the new gauge and not a power drain. I have observed the reproductions that did not return to empty when off. I understand you don't want to install a dash with a defective gauge. But the proof is if it reads correctly when running. Only one way to tell for sure. Try pjmoreland advice and let us know how it work, or doesn't.
