Replacement bumper with part number on it? Really?

I bought this from Rockauto. The reason I got it is the "A" in GMK4143800674A is supposed to mean it's a show quality bumper. This bumper is supposedly "reconditioned", which might lead someone to believe it's an original.

Nice bumper and chrome, it weighs more than the original. However, no way I'm installing this on my truck with this. It screams not original, why on Earth would they stamp it like this. Rhetorical. Have any of you seen a part # on a bumper before?

Reads 2107A for what little worth.

Sorry, packed it away already. It's a rear sport bumper, 67-72. That stamp is on the lower exterior side. The characters are say 1/2" tall. I mean WTH, if they feel the need to stamp it the bumper's interior would be an obvious choice.

That's the worst April fool joke ever. I can't believe someone thought this was a good idea. Maybe the new guy did it and the foreman thought no one would notice.

That sucks, I would call Rockauto or Goodmark. That is a Goodmark number, right.

What a shame too, this bumper is stout and otherwise beautiful. I paid extra for this "A" piece too. It will be interesting to see what Rock Auto says.

SMH..what a shame! Years ago, I had some Mopar Performance valve covers. They did the same thing. They had the factory part number stamped right in plain sight, then they chrome plated them.

Some people just have no concept of what their buyers are looking for.

Re: Replacement bumper with part number on it? Really?

That is ashamed that was done to a great bumper like that.

I wish you luck on returning this.
As long as you have a printer at home or work that you can use you should be okay.

I was a big RA customer for a long time.
I collected a lot of car (refrigerator) magnets.

Well, several years ago,
I had something I wanted to return.

This is when I found out that, At the time this happened,

They did not have a Customer service phone number.
Only a number to their Corporate office which they do not answer.

In no how No way was there a way to talk to a Real Person.

So, I tried the E-mail process.

They required that I copy the Return authorization label.

No big deal Right?

I could not get my copier to communicate with my New computer.

By the time I got the issue figured out,
I missed my time frame on the return deadline.

Well needless to say,

I haven't had that problem since

So you won't buy from RA because your printer didn't work and you couldn't ship the return back in time? Don't they give you like 15-30 days?

I total admit it is my fault in both cases.

And I Know how to keep it from happening again.

I now buy most of my auto parts from a Local Mom and Pop auto parts store.

So, I am glad it happened the way it did.
It made me realize I need to patronize to my local stores more often.

I now also have a Better printer that will communicate with my laptop.

Probably, I've heard that someplace else Grumps. I don't know, have you seen them? I know they're inexpensive, some better than others? On the flipside $2200 and shipping gets a refinished pair in "show condition". Didn't build this for show, but the truck calls for it this point, didn't see that coming.

But you raise a great point, hmmm.

Re: Replacement bumper with part number on it? Really?

I buy quite a bit from Rock Auto, but as others mentioned, there is zero phone communcation, and be prepared to pay return shipping (not sure on this type issue), and their shipping is typically not cheap. Couple years back I had a fuel sending unit from Rock Auto fail with the typical float issue, and by the time I looked at cost to ship, I would have been ahead to just toss it and buy another so I purchased one of the plastic jeep floats that many use, and moved on. Yeah, I would rather buy "local", but I do not really consider the chain stores around me really local, and the prices are typically much higher. So, I shop prices, and buy least expensive -- sometimes that means ebay or amazon. I just finished buying a pair of hydro filters for a zero turn mower, and "local" would have meant probably double the cost for same part.

This is their response, wth?

Hello,

We’re sorry parts were missing from your order. We will ship the missing parts at no cost to you via the shipping method you originally chose for the order. We will send tracking information to you as soon as the replacements ship.

After two business days have passed, the tracking number will become active, and you will be able to track your package's location on the carrier's website.

You can also view the status of your replacements using our Order Status & Returns page.

For further information, please see our Help pages.

On a side, nice thing about paying with a credit card is if a vendor isn't straight the CC company offers some protection. More than that the vendor risks a reduced credit score, and that costs them a lot more money than a bumper and shipping. That said this looks like another hassle. I wrote back requesting another "A" bumper, unstamped of course, and they likely don't have one.

Are they Goodmark bumpers, GMK4143000712A and/or manufactured by Keystone?

The Goodmark bumpers with the A suffix are replated original bumpers , Davis chevy used to buy them and in an old post some where shown with corrective hammer marks on the back and really nice chrome , The reason I posted " you should have gone to Summit" and picked one up is you could have inspected it Before paying crazy Rock auto shipping . The Goodmark bumper sold by Rock auto with the A is the same grade bumper sold at Summit With the A .

Agree, but Summit doesn't have an "A" in stock. I spoke to a Goodyear rep. the other day. According to him "A" means "show quality". The steel comes from overseas (reproduction) and the chrome is done in the USA. Course we don't know if he's right. I suspect "A" means it's a rechromed OEM or a done right replacement depending on bumper.

RA sent me a return label following my response to their meaningless email. Props to them for a customer-friendly response. They said "We’re sorry for the problem with your order. We cannot send a replacement part to you because the part is no longer in stock, and we do not know if/when the part will be available again. Instead, we will refund you for the part..

I responded back asking for a refund of the original shipping cost too, pretty please. 150ish. Edit:, heck yeah, they'll refund that too. Rock-on RockAuto.
