Turn Signal mechanism.Am I missing a piece?
Second thread on my Tilt column.
As I’ve stated in my first thread, my tilt column works fine except cancelling the turn signal after a Righthand turn. Could it be that I’m missing a Spring or lever in the mechanism on the side opposite from the lever (on the top of this attached photo) Could someone show me a picture of a complete setup, then I’ll be able to tell myself. If not his missing, then good, but if something is missing, then I’ll be ordering a new Mechanism. Thanks in advance. |

Re: Turn Signal mechanism.Am I missing a piece?
There should be 2 circular springs on the turn signal switch.. One is visible in the picture. The other spring isn't visible due to the camera angle, and appears to be missing. This would explain why the signal switch isn't cancelling properly.. These two springs )one for left turns and one for right turns) work in conjunction with the canceling cam to cancel the turn signal when the steering wheel is returned to a certain position.
Just an FWI.. It would be more convenient for the readers if you combined all 3 of your threads concerning your steering column questions. |

here is what the cancelling cam springs look like. Looks like someone made the one visible in your picture. You can buy them. Don't pay any attention to the red circle. LockDoc

On posting three questions on all three question on one thread. I wanted to, but since I use my iPad, I can only send one picture with each (I’ve tried before, and it doesn’t work). |

I looked at my switch this morning. Not only is one spring missing, the one that appears is just a piece of wire, bent into the shape of the spring. Two new springs are on my “ List of Parts to Order”. |

Those springs are common to break and are used in many turn signal switches from the era. I have seen them on most American vehicles and might interchange by vehicle brand.

You can successfully make the springs if you use "Music" or "Piano" wire of the same diameter. It's available at any hobby shop or shop that sells model airplane supplies. It may also be available ACE or similar hardware stores. LockDoc '

Re: Turn Signal mechanism.Am I missing a piece?
I just replaced my switch on Saturday and it is a big improvement. I had a similar amount of caked grease in this same spot that made it feel like I was going to break something every time. New one is super crisp and fancy feeling.
