I cut a tray in the ONLY SPOT it would fit on this truck. on another truck I hung it from the passenger firewall and on still another I hung it dead center firewall above the engine.

I know it's an old thread, but dang Joedoh! How'd you get that all to fit??

This time around I plan to use an under the backseat battery for 2000 or so Cadillac Deville DTS like the one in the 2000 I used to have. They are a Group 79 that is Height (in): 7-3/8 Inch Length (in): 12-1/16 Inch Width (in): 7-1/16 Inch and put it behind the cross brace behind the seat in a cabinet/ box back there that will hold the battery, speakers and a tucked away storage box. They are designed to vent out through the floor with a vent setup that I will probably snag at a wrecking yard. if I can't just hook a hose to the vent on the battery.

I should note that mid 70's Audi 5000 had the battery under the back seat and vented through the floor.. I had one of those back 20 years ago.

I’m trying to decide where to put mine now. Thought about putting it behind the seat or frenching the inner fender. I’ve got a drop down box too that I was going to put it on the frame but not sure if I’m going to use it.

lots of different ideas and locations have been used, kinda depends on you truck's design and what is left for space available after custom work has been done to the frame, body, engine bay, exhaust etc. some have used the front of the box with an old cooler or tool box for a battery cover, some use the drop down box along the frame somewhere or in the original spot so the floor can be a solid piece, some french it into an inner fender, some put in the cab with them, I've seen it built into a shallow box under the seat but that truck had a flip up seat like an old full sized blazer. once it is mounted it doesn't really require much maintenance these days but access is required to check connections etc and for replacement some day. if it is hidden you might consider some remote battery terminals placed somewhere handy so you can do boosting and/or charging if needed. part of a good servixe plan for any vehicle includes a battery check for terminals and connections, a load test on the battery and a charging system output test. these would require access to the battery.

I think this would look good frenched in the fender BUT it's kinda nice but pricey!

I had mine in the fender early on as well before moving it to the firewall. Thinking about moving it back the the fender again but turning it the other way.

Yes , they do not look good under the hood, but, IMO, this is where function is more important than form. I have a friend who dreads having to access the battery in his Vette.

I chose to mount mine under the passenger side floor using a drop down battery box. I also mounted remote battery terminals inside the engine compartment down by the bottom edge of the front inner wheel tubs (passenger side). This way I can charge/jump the battery from the top side if need be. I did this mainly because my Suburban is bagged and if the battery dies when it is laid out on the running boards I would have issues getting to the battery.

Marc, do you have any pic's of the battery location from the green truck you sold? Didn't you have it behind the front wheel?

I'm liking the idea of accessibility by having it under the hood but wonder how much heat from the headers would affect it.

I do but on a portable hard drive somewhere. It was a modified G-body frame so different than a stock AD frame. That is why on the Suburban I went back to the original location as I could not get it to mount flat against the Porterbuilt front drop member.

it did though! the battery couldnt go forward any, back any or even down any. you cant see the PCM under the air box either.

Joedoe, the guy who proves you can stuff 10 lbs in a 5 lb box and get the lid closed.

I'm the guy who doesn't like open hoods at car gatherings unless under the hood is something really special so that fits my "It's a custom and customs don't look good with the hood open" concept to a T.

I installed the drop-down box close to the original position this weekend with remote terminals under the hood. The cables from to the remote seem a bit light to me so I’ll swap those for a heavier gauge. Will have 0ne gauge to the starter/ground. I almost quit mid way through though. I’m getting old & had a time pushing the battery up into position!

Ive got my battery in the stock location with a coupling (?) nut as an extension on the starter positive cable. Has worked good for many years but the idea of remote terminals under the hood intrests me.

The remote terminals gives you easier access to the battery in case you or some else needs a jump and make trickle charging a snap.
