Power Steering conversion
What all is needed for a 72 C30 with manual steering?
I have the box and pitman arm from a 76 C30 |

get you a power steering pump with pulley and brackets, the two hoses, and a belt.

Cool, got those on the 488 going into the truck...
How about steering linkages? Will they bolt on? I see the catalogs call for a different adjusting sleeve for PS? |

No linkage issues at all. The only difference is the pitman arm, which you already have the p/s one, so you're set.

So when I'm hunting this weekend, what years should I look to get the steering box and pitman arm from? I guess the newer the better, but where's the cutoff year?
Guess I should look for the fitting for the rear of the pump, too, so I can screw it into my serpentine-setup PS pump, like Tx Firefighter recommends, so I won't need custom hoses. Thanks...SSOW

You need a pickle fork and a BFH (Big Freakin hammer) I have a pickle fork that goes in an air hammer and makes the job real easy.

I got the pump and serpentine setup from an '89 C1500 350V8. Do you think that box will work? I didn't know when I was there, so I left it on the truck. I did take the lines - i think they are compression.

Yep, I checked it last night, and it's the o-ring type.
Has anyone done this? A PS gearbox (and matching pump, etc.) from an '89 C1500 to replace the manual box on a '69 C10? Sounds like the box will bolt up (although other threads suggest possible line routing problems), but what pitman arm will I need? Thanks...SSOW

It's not rocket science :p
Check the hole sizes. If the late model stuff is wrong, you can either have it reamed (hole is too small) or buy one for your year truck with PS. Could also looking into swapping ends, but I am willing to bet a cup of Army cawfee that it will bolt up. CW02 Grendel |
