Clutch fan upgrade
What clutch/fan setup is anyone using on a long water pump with factory shroud (standard Sbc 350 non-AC truck) I’ve got the original 4 blade fan now and it cools great but I’d like to quiet down the noise aspect. I’ve read through the old posts and everything I can find as far as part #s was used on a short pump setup. Or does it even really matter? Thanks-Mike

Re: Clutch fan upgrade
Are you sure you have a long WP? This thread suggests your truck should have a short WP. https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...d.php?t=826073

Re: Clutch fan upgrade
Short pump. If you had a long pump, the fan with a clutch would be rubbing on the radiator

Re: Clutch fan upgrade
A 7 blade 18" fan and Fan clutch
This is the fan I bought. SBC, short WP https://www.npdlink.com/product/fan-...1967&year=1967 and Fan Clutch https://www.npdlink.com/product/clut...%3D0%26year%3D the center of fan blade is about 2" from face of WP pulley fan clutch bolts to. If you needed the fan to be further out you can just add a spacer or find a fan clutch with a longer neck Last edited by 72SB; 05-26-2023 at 05:01 PM. |

72SB -- That fan looks perfect, same as my OEM fan. A question about that clutch, if you don't mind. Do you know if it's standard duty (front fins around the outer perimeter only), or is it heavy duty(fins across the entire front)? Either should work OK for the OP since he doesn't have AC. I prefer a HD clutch just for the additional cooling -- necessary or not. ![]() EDIT: Link to Hayden's site showing differences between standard-, heavy-, and severe-duty clutches. https://www.haydenauto.com/en/produc...-types/thermal

The two pumps aren't interchangeable as the pulleys on the pump would not align with the other pulleys.. |

Re: Clutch fan upgrade
Thank you for the replies and confirmation of what I’ve actually got : ). I’m pretty confident in ordering the correct parts now

I had the asymmetrical 5 blade and it was OK until I get stuck in traffic for 30 min so I went 7 blade, problem solved. The 5 blade was fine with my 327 but the BPE 355 wanted more fan NPD is not far from me so I bought my 5 blade, FC I had but the 7 blade did not bolt up to the FC I had so had to get this one while I was there |
