67-72 gas tank covers
My 30 year old cardboard cover is kinda sad, and it never did fit worth a darn anyway. The cardboard would be OK with me, but I want it to actually stay put.
What do you all recommend? I'm open to carpeting if it fits well.

Re: 67-72 gas tank covers
All the work IronCanine had to do to get the carpet installed made my head explode. Did I miss something? Was that the final product from ACC?

Re: 67-72 gas tank covers
Yeah
His part started in post #23 ( have been working ACC on getting factory correct bucket seat carpet cut. They have been enthusiastic to this point, so fingers crossed. The first step was finding a good original piece. Member Dirt's72 has generously offered up the tank carpet from his late 69 C20 Custom Camper (factory A50) built in Fremont. He took it out today and documented the process very well. Here are his pics that very nicely document the shape and the structure of the carpet. I don't know if the adhesive was from the factory but I suspect the zinc screws and washers may have been added later to reinforce the carpet...but I don't know. Thanks again Derrick for doing this!)

Re: 67-72 gas tank covers
Mike as you know the cardboard reproductions are a turd. You need a phd in cardboard folding and stapling. I ordered a tank carpet cover from LMC. It was a no go also. I replaced my original tank due to corrosion inside the old tank. Probably from the ethanol in the gas. Before installing the tank I painted the exposed ends a satin black. Turned out very well. If you wanted to you could use color match spray paint. Not much of the tank shows anyway. Different story if it's a show truck.
