69-72 to 67-68 GMC Slant Nose Parts Stare and Compare

hope this thread helps folks out on their quest to do a slant nose swap, this is not a how to thread, it is a help me out please

going through this I was more confused than a blind goat on astroturf

we have the Chevy vs GMC parts and we have the GMC 67 or the Chevy 67-68 vs 69-72 parts

now to answer the question, why would anybody do this, aint the 71-72 bits purdier? well, have you meet me, lol

anyway, I would really appreciate your participation and would love to see some pics of the 67 hood latch brackets on and off the truck if you got any, also that vertical center piece, and of course the skirt that runs along the bottom, pretty much everything

now I don't know what parts I got here, some came with my 71 GMC others I bought, but some I learned were misidentified

I am certain that, that red piece is a 67 though

I know there may have been a million posts on this already, but you know, here's one more

Re: 69-72 to 67-68 GMC Slant Nose Parts Stare and Compare

on the '71 the top bar on the grill is thicker cause the hood doesn't swoop down as far, on the '67 the hood is longer so it takes this style top bar which runs across the top of the core support

Re: 69-72 to 67-68 GMC Slant Nose Parts Stare and Compare

The hood latch profile had the matching steep or slant as the hood it goes with. All GMC latches are offset to the right.

No surround trim in '67

Narrow surround trim in '67, 3pcs

69-72 have the wider surround trim, 3pcs The wider top bar compensate for the shorter 69-72 hood, due to all 67-72 GMCs using the same fenders as 67/68 Chevy. We all know the difference between all 67s and 68s, side marker light.

Center bar you can identify by where the grille center mount is located that corresponds with mount location in grille

Thank you, but I don't understand, I can't picture it, is one of the hood latches I pictured above a '67 latch?

Re: 69-72 to 67-68 GMC Slant Nose Parts Stare and Compare

I recently rebuilt the front end of my 72 GMC. It is 100% original as far as I can tell. Here are some reference pics for you to show what the 71/72 parts look like. I originally wanted to swap my front end to a 67/68 but after seeing mine back together all freshened up I think I will leave it.

Re: 69-72 to 67-68 GMC Slant Nose Parts Stare and Compare

so I stole this parts diagram from LMC and dumbed it down a bit to show what components it takes to build up a 1967 GMC front end

I'm guessing the bumper/grill deflector is part #8 in that diagram? If so, nope, mine did not have one of those. The only parts not installed yet in my second pic are the grill itself and the bumper.

thank you, that matches what LMC claims, great looking truck you got there, but you best mount that passenger side side mirror on quick or my symmetrical OCD brain is going to explode ! lol

hahaha. I was hoping nobody would notice! My truck was like that when I bought it so I don't even have a mirror to mount on there.
