Someone on this board was(is) machining the OEM temp. sensor down to fit the LS 1 head, Can't seem to find him on old threads, HELP Please.

May be not for you but I drill and tap the head for the correct NPT size. That way if the sensor fail a new one is only a NAPA parts store away.

I have been modifying the original sensors to fit the later model Vortec heads but not for LS family engines.

The standard sensor has 1/2"-NPT threads, the Vortec heads are 3/8"-NPT
the LS is 12mm

There isn't enough material to modify the original sensor to 12mm (.472")
here's a cut-away of an original sensor, the small end is .550" diameter.

I used one of these.

Seems it would change the calibration because it extends out so far.
I have not had any issues with mine.
Others use the LS part and connect it to the original system.
Maybe someone can find the link as I had no luck.

I do what ls short box did...drill/tap pass head to npt..

I had one of those on my LS3. It did not work real well. After driving for a bit, the adapter would heat up and I think the sensor was picking up that temperature instead of the coolant.

I drilled and tapped water pump for correct sending unit.
