Windshield wash nozzle location for AD?

I want to add washer sprayers / nozzles to my AD.

Does anyone have pictures of the nozzle they used, where you located it and a report how well it worked?

I did find these threads:
this one seems to show factory option nozzles for an AD, but not in location. I'd really like to see where the factory put them.
https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...d.php?t=447493

This one shows a couple options people did. I don't have a lathe and am not too fond of the hose to wiper arm look although I am sure that will work well

I fear drilling holes and ending up with the aim wrong!
Some newer plastic nozzles have the hole in an aim-able ball, but I have not spotted one designed for hood mount that had the feature.

The accessory installation manual has pictures and measurements. 54 is different from other years.

Re: Windshield wash nozzle location for AD?

thanks!
I found the manual & instructions here http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com...am/51aim93.htm

And the location is shown as center of the belt line between the windows.
I would not have guessed it would be so close.

LUCAS part number WSB129 is a single jet version of above

another option for a small chrome dual squirt might be a mid 60s VW beetle.

now I just have to choose

Another option, if you dont want to go OE- look at modifying a rear SUV wiper blade that has the washer nozzle integrated into the wiper arm assembly.

Tried that location on the 54 one piece windshield with very poor results. Finally opted for an inexpensive washers and mounted nozzles out on hood and bottle on firewall. Switch is just a momentary on dash. Works well. I can go and measure nozzles tomorrow if you want.

distance between them and distance from base of windshield would be much appreciated!

Re: Windshield wash nozzle location for AD?

I'm not going to run that louvered hood this time but I had thought about sticking the squirters in the back row of louvers on thehood.

My BMW has very discrete little squirters on the hood that are painted body color that you don't much notice until you feel them when you are drying or polishing the car. After I wipe two inches of snow off the hood I'll try to remember to get a photo.

Re: Windshield wash nozzle location for AD?

you could also check some trucks that have the washer clipped onto the wiper arm, chevy trucks from mid 2000 maybe? some highway trucks also have some interesting stand alone washer nozzles that have adjustable sprayers.

https://www.oerparts.com/product/3718638.html

https://www.camarodepot.ca/exterior/...zles-1967-1969

or maybe something like this without the lights
http://www.autolumination.com/washers.htm

another clip on with possibly more nozzles

https://simple-engineering.com/produ...asher-nozzles/

or some chrome

https://www.musclecarsandclassics.ca...zzle-1963-1967

dunno if you could make something like this work

https://www.musclecarsandclassics.ca...zzle-1953-1962

a little spendy but if you think they would work you know what they came from so could try another source

https://www.musclecarsandclassics.ca...rect-1963-1967

I think with a split window you kinda need one nozzle per side, why I thought the nozzle on the wiper arm might be a good idea. that and you would not need to drill any holes in a large panel in case you really don't like it and have to weld them closed.

Re: Windshield wash nozzle location for AD?

Ok. Ventured out in downpour. Nozzles are approx. 14" from windsheild base and 10" from hood centerline. Hard to see unless your looking specifically for them. Not show quality as Truck is "fair weather" daily driver. They get lots of use due to ocean spray in the air here. Hoses do not interfere with under hood and nozzles can be directed with a pin. Will attempt pics later when i dry out.

"Nozzles are approx. 14" from windshield base and 10" from hood centerline."
excellent, that is what I will do. thankyou!

The clipped to wiper arm ideas would spray well, but I don't like the idea of the exposed hose on cowl. I'm also happier with holes in the hood, much easier to weld up if something needs to change in future.

Re: Windshield wash nozzle location for AD?

I dimly recall fooling with magnets to locate nozzles and also installing them to just miss the hood support. Found just enough room to zip tie hoses neatly out the way. The firewall mount over the heater delete is not best for refilling but works. Securing the bottle is important as its a bit of weight during rough bumps. Good luck and let us know how you fare.

Re: Windshield wash nozzle location for AD?

if you haven't got your nozzles yet try to find some with an adjustable outlet, mostly they can be turned slightly with a little pin or a seal pick, carefully.

Re: Windshield wash nozzle location for AD?

you could likely find a decent looking washer fluid bottle, even with a built in washer pump, by a walk around at the local pick n pull. even a browse on the dorman site may help.
something like this may work, universal, but there are others that may also work and apeal to your eye more. even try some for highway trucks as they usually don't conform to a body shape and mount against a flat surface.

Re: Windshield wash nozzle location for AD?

I tried a pick and pull washer but it was clogged up and nozzles were too. This is what I used and put bottle on firewall over heater delete. Works well so far.

Oh and don't forget low temp WW Fluid if needed.

Re: Windshield wash nozzle location for AD?

Realized I should come back and post a wrap up for the thread I started.
I decided I did not want any hoses for the nozzles inside the cab, so hood mounted was the way to go.

I already had a bottle with integral pump like vintovka posted, it came with dual jet squirters. I tested them, their narrowest setting was a pretty wide spread. The cowl and hood brace limits how close to the windshield you can get, but with the right angle the dual squirters get one side of the windshield each - (4 streams, 2 of which cross the centre line of hood)

The bottle I have came off ebay but I see them all over Amazon. The pump in mine died after I tested it, it turns out it is a '90s civic/accord pump and knockoffs of those are also available all over amazon for cheap. The replacement has been working fine.

That is just about what my 98 BMW 528I has in pretty much the same locations. I still haven't got a good photo of those.

Re: Windshield wash nozzle location for AD?

I used the rear window washer nozzle off of a s10 blazer. It mounts on my stock wiper arm on the drivers side. Because the rear washer squirts straight down and across the window it washes both sides with one nozzle. I used the whole system off of the blazer, hoses, grommet, reservoir and pump, even the switch.
