No emergncy brake

Completed entire brake system R&R. Truck stops good.
Pushed down on the e-brake pedal. It does not stay down. Took a look. The lever that is supposed to stay in the gear doesn't. If I push on the lever, it'll stay. Pull on the handle does release the lever. Pedal pops back up.

Got zero clue on why but Im thinking it needs to be lubed or there is a broken spring.

Any ideas?
Thanks...Don.

If you mean the spring for the little clicker lever, those do have a light spring that will rust away. I found a standard vise grip replacement spring is a great fit for that. The loop end of the spring goes over the lever, and the hook end hooks onto the main body like this.

This other bigger spring is for the pull lever to return after you pull it. I bought a set of small general purpose springs at the hardware store to replace it.

You may not be missing it. It is up in there with the lever. My use of the vise grip spring is a way to deal with a rusted away original spring. Here is what the original spring looks like.

I really climbed up under the dash. Found the original spring up in the crevice. I tried to put it back where it belongs. Didn't work. Need to go to town for vice grip springs.

Thanks again...Don.

Re: No emergncy brake

It's unlikely you will see them in town, it's an online order item. I bought a pack of them from Amazon.com and I've also ordered free warranty replacements from the Irwin tools website. These springs are also ideal to replace broken springs on privacy fence gate latches, and on my 69 Chevy truck I replaced the small hood latch spring with one of these. Search for the one that fits Vise Grip 10R.

Re: No emergncy brake

Went to my local Ace hardware. Rummaged thru the drawers until I found something that kinda looked right. I needed to stretch one end out a bit so it would fit. $2.66

Gave the brake a try yesterday.
It works...Don.
