Dropping a 70 "C30"
Ok, I have a 70 C20 that got a 72 C30 front end swapped on.
I am trying to keep the towinghauling capacity up, as this will tow my 7K lbs Blazer occasionally and haul stuff. What's the best way to drop it? I'd like to do spindles, but there's no way to keep the 8 lug rims I already have... Springs, I guess? How does that do with alignment geometry? |

Are you trying to drop the whole truck front and rear? and how much? 2/3 3/4? I would suggest first using springs and leafs designed to drop the truck then maybe later spindels. In the rear you can also "flip" the rear leaf springs by unbolting the axel, and then moving the axel from under the spring to the top of it. This will give the rear a 2"-3" drop. Good luck

The rear will get bagged. It's the only way to keep the tow capacity up. I honestly don't know how much I plan to drop it. Trying to see what the options are, if anyone makes a dropped spindle for a C30. |

If you have coils, then you don't have a C/30. One ton trucks came with only leaf springs.

As I described in the first post It's a C20 with a C30 front end... former owner said so, anyway. Which is why in the header, I posted "C30" Quote:

O.k. I get it...wait no I dont a c30 front end would be leaf springs??? if I am correct so like I said earlier to drop the front end "flip" the front leaf. if its all coils then it is not a c30 front suspension, if I am correct.

72 C30 is Coil, I thought. I thought all C10,20,30 fronts are coiled? |

My mistake....I didn't see the part that said C/20 with C/30 front end.
And I misstated that in my reply too...C/30's only had leafs in the rear. All 2 wheel drive had coils up front...again my mistake. The 30 and 20 front ends are the same as far as I know, so what ever you can find for a 3/4 ton will work. (double check that before spending X-hundred bucks though) I think I remember some one saying on here that early classics (??) has a kit for the 3/4 tons...it's been a couple years, but I know SOMEONE sells a kit with spindles up front. |

Use 73-up ball joints and outer tie rods,... and 73-up drop spindles for a C-30. Pretend you are dropping 73-87,... besides I think a 3/4 ton and a 1 ton have the same ball joints. Is this a single rear wheel truck or a dually?

It's SRW. I have a 76 C30 parts rig I can use... does that junk bolt on? Have you done this or read about it? No offense intended, of course. |

I have used 73-up stuff to convert 1/2 tons back in the 80's before you could buy bolt on stuff for the 67-72's. Belltech makes spindles for the 73-up 3/4 and 1 tons. Use the upper and lower ball joints and the outer tie rods. You might be better off to use the entire centerlink and tierod assembly from your 76 C30. Some people swap the entire crossmember,... but thats not neccessary. If you want,... rob everything from the a-arms out. It's a bolt on. Hope this helps.
