Which one is #1 on an HEI
I have finally started putting my TPI on my truck. Which one on the HEI is #1? I included a picture, along with the one that I think is #1. I would rather find out I am wrong now than when I try to start my truck so hlep me out

Do you go clockwise or counterclockwise?

The one you circled is ok to use as number one. Your firing order on the distributor goes clockwise.

What a question from someone doing a TPI swap huh, I was pretty sure that was the way it went but its been a long time since I have pulled my plug wires.

I USUALLY USE THE TERMINAL CIRCLED, OR THE ONE DIRECTLY TO THE RIGHT OF IT. IT REALLY DOESN'T MATTER WITCH TERMINAL YOU START WITH, OR CALL #1 AS LONG AS YOU INSTALL ALL THE OTHER WIRES IN THE CORESPONDING FIRING ORDER, & THE TERMINAL YOU ARE CALLING #1 IS POINTING AT THE # 1 CYL WHEN IT IS AT T.D.C. (THE DIST. DOESN'T KNOW THE DIFFERENCE) JOHN

junkyardjohn is right, any terminal is # 1 as long as you put the wires in the correct firing order. I have been through this before too.

Like was said, number one is where you make it. But, technically GM did it where you have the circled terminal. Factory HEI's had a ring around the plug wires that was labeled as to which cylinder went where.
Insert Tx Firefighter (TM) picture of said ring....

Now you've all put a question in my mind....
Seems like some of the diagrams I've seen had the #1 on the front right side of the cap. Either that or I had too much too drink when looking at it.

Engine has to be top dead center on # 1 then the rotor has to be on the terminal you pick as the # 1 to start firing order.
