Re: D89ba

I have collected a lot of pics of the factory D89 paint stripe and have only come across one 67-68 pickup. It belongs to member toms68cst. Unfortunately he doesn't post many pics of his truck.

Here are the ones I've found.

Re: D89ba

These stripes were hand applied with a Beugler striping tool (or something similar) so they weren't all exactly the same. It depended on the steadiness of the applicator's hand so some were a bit wavy. Also, I have seen two different styles of tip at the end. One more pointed like the one on toms68cst and one more rounded as seen below.

That’s just what I needed, thx for the pics. Not sure of I want to add the stripe or not. Now with the pics I’ll know the layout.

Thx for the pics. I’m thinking about adding these.

Re: D89ba

The factory paint stripes came in two colors, black and white. White and light yellow trucks got black and the rest of the colors I have seen got a white stripe. Here is a thread that documents a factory stripe on a 71 K2500 GMC. https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...d.php?t=544757 It's a good reference point to start with if you wanted to recreate a factory D89 stripe.

Re: D89ba

Sure, glad to help. I’ve been thinking about adding the stripe to my truck too. I even picked up a used Beugler pinstriping tool. Now I just have to do some practicing.

Re: D89ba

I like that. My truck is black as well so that really is an excellent example of what I can expect. Only difference is I painted it Hot Rod Satin black but should still look similar. Maybe a silver stripe?

Re: D89ba

Actually it is Rainforest Green, I had the stripe as well as rhe tailgate letters Silver. Was smart enough at the time to research the code. But wanted to accent the color. If you enlarge the photo you get a better idea. I’m on an iPad so am able to enlarge the pictures.

Re: D89ba

Yes I enlarged it as well, ok I see it better now— beautiful green and I like the accent on the stripe color. Good call. I’m leaning in the direction of the silver stripe now but it may change. Now my tailgate says CHEVROLET in a cream white to match the other color contrasts so I can also do that. Might be a better idea.

Re: D89ba

On the original paint trucks, the stripe color matched the tailgate lettering color.

That's my truck in the first posts. I can post more pictures if needed.

Re: D89ba

Thanks for the responses and information. I think I will paint the stripe color to match the tailgate color lettering (which is white). Not sure when it will get done but if I do decide to move forward I will post some pics of it.
