Post More P/S Pump Questions

I am still trying to figure out why my new power steering pump won't work correctly. I have tried jacking it up with the engine running and turning lock to lock for about 45 minutes but it still feels the same (Not smooth). If I turn the wheels lock to lock with the engine not running it sounds like there is air in the system. And also it will spit fluid out of the cap on the p.s pump when turning with engine off. Is this air forcing the fluid out or is it normal for this to happen just because the pump isn't turning? Thanks.........Lumpy

The spit up is from the trapped air. With the engine running the pump is pressurized and the bubbles are compressed, with it off they expand to their normal size and push fluid out the cap.

Some how you need to get that truck up on you shoulder and patt it on the hood until it burps.

When I did my suburban it took about 30 minutes to clear the air bubbles. I also did it again the next day just to let the fluid settle down. When you are turning lock to lock are you doing it slowly? Sorry , don't really have any better advice than to keep trying.

the assemby manual says that if you get air bubbles, let it set for 45 min. then bleed it off.

Thanks for the replies guys. Slam when you say let it set for 45 minutes then bleed it off. Does that mean turn it lock to lock again? Thanks......Lumpy

I think I remember reading that before you put the belt on to turn it counter clockwise by hand to get the air out.
