headlight exchange

I'm looking at buying a 72 GMC halfton and have a question. ive never liked the front end of the gmc as much as the chevys. my question is, what all do I need to do in order to go from the gmc (4 headlight) frontend to the chevy (2 headlight) front end? I cant seem to find any post about doing so.

Re: headlight exchange

I started with buying repop rad. support as that was the hardest part to find unrusted. Rest of parts you can find on the classified in this forum

You'll have to be a member to post a WTB, or if you see one for sale, you can post up

I have a 72 GMC, with a 68 Chevy from clip, so it can be done

Holes are a different size from 68 to 72 on the rad.support mounting bracket so you will have to deal with that

Exclamation Re: headlight exchange

Unless you are switching to a '67-'68 Chevy nose, you will need fenders, grille and core support.

If you are using the '67-'68 Chevy nose, the hood on those is different too.

Re: headlight exchange

You do you(and you find what you find), but IMHO it would be kinder to leave the GMC's to their fans and just build a Chevy if you want one that looks like a Chevy

It would be easier to build a chevy if there were more chevys for sale. The truck im looking at buying is a gmc amd i hate the gmc front ends on these trucks

Re: headlight exchange

You can just find somebody with a Chevy that will swap with you, because there are Chevy owners would would like that GMC front end. I would like a GMC front for my Chevy if I were getting ready to paint or if I could get one in saddle to match my truck. Swap the fenders, hood, radiator support, grill, and bumper.

Finding a whole front clip is best (although hard in some places).

As to the general question, it depends if you want the "72" Chev front end look or ???? (I am partial to the 69-70)
67-68 basically the same... a couple small differences,
69-70....same, 71-72....same, in Chevy front ends for those year groups.

Simple and clear answer: If you want your 72 GMC to looks like a "72" Chev then you will need fenders, rad support, entire grill assembly and bumper. 72 GMC hood is same as 72 Chevy.

Good luck with you build.

Re: headlight exchange

Decades ago I could see doing it. Today with the few GMC’s available I would not. I have always had more compliments from bystanders over my GMC than any of the C/10’s I’ve owned…
