Turbo 400 trans question

I have a turbo 400 trans I pulled from a 68 Caprice many moons ago. I will be putting together a 68 swb project with a 396 I have and want to use a turbo 400 with it.

Can anyone tell me if the trans from the Caprice is the same as a truck trans? Or are there differences in the length, linkage hookup, or other concerns/problems I would have in using this trans in the truck.

Once again thanks for any info or suggestions.....this board is the greatest.

The 68 Caprice should have the same length transmission as the trucks, (short tailshaft). I believe they use with the large yoke but you may want to check that, (the earlier transmissions had the same output shaft spline but a smaller diameter OD).

It'll bolt right up. I have a TH400 from a '67 Caprice in my truck, the only mod it needed was to have the driveshaft cut because the th400 is longer than the old th350.

You may run into a tiny snag with the yoke. Some very early Th400s used a smaller yoke than later ones used. I bought an original 68 model TH400 from board member Superchevy, and it still used the small type of yoke. My trans guy converted it to the normal one when he rebuilt it for me. After like 69 or so, they all used the same bigger yoke.

I kept the yoke when I pulled the trans so I would have it. If I remember correctly it was a large one (but then I wouldn't bet on my memory). One odd thing about the yoke, it had a large metal ring around the entire yoke, I'm assuming a counter weight of some sort, but never saw one before. Definitely looks OEM.

Thanks again for everyone's help.
