Re: Post Your Factory Correct Restored 67-72 Trucks! (No Customs!)

I restored this truck to original in 1989, (right down to the NOS Firestone tires In the storeroom now. Notice the G-78 in the second pic.) It has all the factory markings I could document on teardown. I only have a couple of pics on this computer.

I know.......So ridiculous and one of a kind. A real gem....It's worth posting again......That's 51 miles a year, and you're on schedule to turn 100,000 miles in the year 3928.

Excellent thread, and SNAP!, look at some of these engine bays. Will bookmark for reference. My goal is factory correct as well, exception being a drop and wheels, and items like the gas tank. Exhaust too, unless someone happens to know where to locate a pair of beautiful mufflers.

I forgot to mention, my truck had parchment interior originally. I bought the material from SMS in 1988 and had a local guy sew it up.

In all fairness changing your interior to a non-factory color makes it a custom.
This isn't the very debatable point of "factory correct" vs "as built" but Chevrolet simply did not offer black/houndstooth trim in a 67-72 pickup.

The very reason I pointed out the color change is I didn't want someone to use it later as an example later.

If one change (actually I have four from stock) disqualifies a truck from this thread, it is going to be a short thread.

Re: Post Your Factory Correct Restored 67-72 Trucks! (No Customs!)

So, I created this thread because I wanted to see trucks that have been restored with GM's original intentions in mind. There was already a nice thread for survivor 67-72 pickups but not a consolidated one for people who bucked the trends and restored their truck to factory specs.

Now, I see both sides of the exchange above. Hey, it's just a seat cover, if one were "exclude" trucks from this thread that aren't 100% factory restorations it would indeed be a near empty thread. But, on the other hand what if a truck only had 2 deviations from a factory restoration? Say, a 4-6 static drop and big billets. Well, unfortunately it wouldn't belong in this thread. What I wanted to see in this thread were trucks restored to, as close as possible, the look of a factory truck. Factory height, narrow steelies, skinny tires, factory color paint, carbureted engines, big ol' steering wheels, etc.

Thanks to all who have shared their trucks so far and I always look forward to seeing more.

Re: Post Your Factory Correct Restored 67-72 Trucks! (No Customs!)

You'll have to live with my wheels for now... I have a set of NOS hubcaps but have to restore the wheels yet. And I stained rather than painted my bed. And I chromed the mirrors. But that's about it.

I mean I have reproductions of the correct batteries for TP2 w/ T60, so that should get in this thread just with that alone :-)

Thanks for the post Dave. I never get tired of seeing that truck. The steelies would just be the icing on the cake in my humble opinion.

Me too. Right off the bat, I knew it would be a tuff row to hoe. This would require a very serious factory restoration, something that is usually not done to a vehicle that is not considered a "rare ss convertible or corvette etc.". Most will think in terms of "its just a truck, I will do whatever works for me". Very impressed with some of the trucks posted on this thread, especially blkcorvair's beautiful 69 olive stepper. It's a base truck, a model which is seldom restored, and it got the full factory correct quality restoration. Some items just are not available in a restoration, for example the base model seat cover, so some deviations are expected, and should be accepted in the phrase " as close as possible". When it comes to custom wheels and a drop, sorry, these are personal taste items, which radically alter the factory look.

Re: Post Your Factory Correct Restored 67-72 Trucks! (No Customs!)

How about it? Anyone else have a truck that would fit nicely into this thread? Looking for trucks that are super clean survivors or ones that have been restored with GM's original design in mind, i.e. a stock color, factory height, narrow steel wheels, skinny tires and big ol' steering wheels. See previous posts in this thread for some beautiful examples.

Here’s one of mine, 1972, big block, automatic with AC, and original paint. 70k miles. I have owned this one for 24 years. I just had a correct dual exhaust system made for it with NOS GM mufflers

Hey Joe, that’s a beautiful truck. I really like the factory correct exhaust. Are those NOS mufflers as hard to find as hen’s teeth?

The mufflers are actually correct for a 73-87 big block truck, I bought a bunch of them off eBay.

Re: Post Your Factory Correct Restored 67-72 Trucks! (No Customs!)

here's my 1972 Big Block Cheyenne Super.built in Fremont,California and sold new at Leo Hoffman Chevrolet in City of Industry,California,77,000 original miles,1 owner til me and was an original paint truck that was in storage from 1996 til 3 years ago when i bought it and had it hauled home from Idaho.i didn't plan on the amount of restoration work that i did,2 paint jobs and rebuilding all of the original drivetrain but the paint was badly sunburned and 25 years of hibernation didn't do it any good.it has all five of the original 16.5 wheels repainted with new Firestone Transforce tires and a set of hubcaps i restored.all the original moldings(NOS Tail light bezels),bumpers, mirrors, door handles and grille are back on except the woodgrain panel on the tailgate and new ACC carpet on the floor.original EZI glass except a new windshield, the rest of the interior and interior paint are factory.

Very sharp truck in a great color. I think I saw this truck in person last year (2022) at the Southeastern Truck Nationals in Lebanon TN. There can't be to many restored 1968 dark green shortbeds with inline six out there. Last year that truck looked like it had just been restored and never driven. Not bad for 7 years after the photo in this thread was posted. Beautiful truck!
