muncie 4 spped question
I have a 68 swb 2wd. with a high hump floor pan. the truck came with a v8 and a sm 465 4 speed trans. The question I have is I was planning on putting a low hump pan in the truck that I will cut out of a 2wd. cab, is there going to be clearance issues with the lower floor hump or would I be better off leaving the bolt in high hump pan ? The only other thought is if I stay with the high hump pan will the shifter boot be up to much on the shifter handle and not look right. Any info is appreciated ?

Re: muncie 4 spped question
I think that the low hump pan would be better as it would have the shifter lever in a more normal height.

Re: muncie 4 spped question
No issues, I did the exact same thing with my truck. I cut the low hump (and a little extra) out of another cab and I actually made the piece a bolt in like the factory high hump, its a little tight, but should clear. It did on my truck. I did add a new lower profile crossmember for the 4 speed. I also recently just swapped the 4 speed for a Tremec TKX 5 speed and other than trimming my shifter hole a touch larger, the low hump still worked.

Re: muncie 4 spped question
I don't see where you said you are changing the truck 4spd made by Muncie. GM wouldn't have gone to the expense of making two different floor pans if it was not required. Pull you transmission cover off, or just the shifter boot, to see the added height is required to clear this tall transmissions. The only place I've seen a low hump used in place of the high hump is with the TH400 transmission. 4spd trucks in 67-69 weren't available with automatic, so all 4wd models got the high hump. That also allows access to the transfer case shift mechanism located on the top side

Re: muncie 4 spped question
Calling a transmission a Muncie isn't a very good description.
>>The Synchro-mesh 465 or SM465 is a heavy-duty, four-speed manual transmission built by General Motors for use in light and medium duty trucks from 1968 to 1991 at the factory in Muncie, Indiana; it was designed to replace the somewhat similar Muncie SM420 transmission, which had been in production since just after WWII<<

Re: muncie 4 spped question
I guess I missed your reply to Camaro Boy or I wouldn't have posted mine. Looking now I see it's clear you are going to a car 4spd because you would have corrected him rather than thank him. The car 4spds are a direct swap from the 3spd, physically the same dimensions or very close. My '67 GMC project will have an M22. The chassis has the automatic transmission crossmember. The cab is a low-hump already with a hole cut for, I assume, a 3spd floor shift conversion.

Re: muncie 4 spped question
I missed your reply to Camaro Boy before mine where you would have corrected him if you weren't going to a car transmission. It all makes sense now. Primo collection you have there. I don't know if we're crossed paths before, but I see you didn't start getting with these trucks yesterday

Re: muncie 4 spped question
My '67 started life with PG, but I put in a 3sp and then a 4spd (M 21). That SWB truck was a good example of a truck that could live with a car 4spd.
My '69 LWB 4x4 still has the truck 4spd (M465) it was born with, and I wouldn't trade it for anything ever put in a car.
