The great electric cooling fan debate…
Had to step away from the computer for a while so apologies for my absence….
As a recap I have a 66 C10 with an LM7. Radiator is a generic ally 25 x 19 for which I have made a shroud to attach 2 fans - sorry can’t remember the size - run from the stock computer so they come on individually. The problem is my shroud looks absolutely horrid. I would like to find a factory style shroud and fan that doesn’t scream - made from the side of a washing machine…. Used the search function and hear about the Tanus fans but they are a little hard to come by in the UK. Therefore are there any Euro style set ups that you have used that fit and keep the engine cool. Looked at the eBay duel fan set ups but would prefer not to spend £200+ Suggestions and recommendations gladly accepted. P.

I'd ask what's the advantage to a complicated system vs the dead simple traditional clutch fan?

Good question.
Don't have a clutch fan and the chances of getting a used fan in the Uk are very slim. Looking at buying one new, including the shroud and shipping is more expensive than a good electric set up. An adequate electric set up is even cheaper! P.

I'd think that getting the fan would be cheap, and getting a new clutch is easy but a bit more.
Needless to say I have no idea what importing cheap (<$100) things to the UK costs. I'd guess the shroud would be the same so... |

I'm using electric fans from a 98 Trans Am on the stock (at least the one that came in the truck) radiator. I've got an LS1 (from the same TA) with an auto trans and air conditioning and in the Florida heat and the AC on the truck doesn't get over 190* The shroud is factory black plastic and blends in nicely.

Since you are in the UK and you don't have great access to a salvage yard with American cars I would say spending the money on a good E-fan setup is the way to go.

Thanks for the feedback chaps.
Purchased a pair of duel Spal fans and a shroud for £100 new. Has over 3000cfm capacity so will be perfect for my usage. P.

This is the fan system I have on my '71 C/10.. No computerized engine management system. Just a rambunctious carbureted 454 BBC. One fan comes on with a signal from the ignition switch.. The other fan is activated by a coolant temp sensor, set to come on at 195 Fahrenheit.. The second fan very seldom comes on. I live in East Texas where summer time temperatures run consistent triple digits.. They're not cheap, not very pretty, but they WORK!!!
