door lock modification ?

I have been thinking of removing the offending protusion in an effort to keep doors from un-locking when closing door.
if I do this will that defeat the security & allow someone to open door while "locked"?

Please keep us updated with what you find. I'd like to do this to mine, too.

My brother has a '69 El Camino that the door locks unlocked when closing (just like our trucks). We swapped in parts from a '71 El Camino since they didn't. I didn't look to see what the differences were

68C15,

Yes if you remove the circled area the door won't lock. It will move to the location like it is locked, but the removed area is what 'Locks' the door.

The only way to do what your looking for is to spring load the locking mech. so that it would ratchet and remain locked. You would still have to be able to 'unlock' the mech. with the inside & outside door locks.

I don't know if there is a clean way of doing this or not. I've never read about a way to do it on here that I can remeber. Nor have I read about anyone converting to another complete door lock such as the 71 el cameo.

I have a extra lock at home maybe i'll have to get it out and see if there is a way to do this.......
