Depends on the engine, 235s were medium gray.. V-8s were Chevrolet Orange... "Big" sixes, I'm not sure....

Re: 60-62 bell housing color

I wanted to check to see if they were painted the engine color or just cast. My 235 had gray on it but most of it was worn off. So I couldn’t tell for sure. Im building a 350 to replace the 235 and it will be Chevy Gray like the 283s had in these trucks. So now I’ll paint it to match. Thanks for the help!

For the US 60-66 trucks, 283s were gray, the 327 in 66 was very close to Detroit Diesel Green (forget exact name at the moment). Chevy Orange didn't hit the US trucks until 67

John Z, my plan is the same. I would like to paint my 350 the grey that would have been on the 283. I have read other threads here, but not sure about sourcing the paint. Have you got your paint and painted the motor yet?

No orange engines in any 60-66 Chevrolet trucks from the factory . 283 was gray and 327s green in 10-30 series

Do you still have the 6 cylinder that was part of this Bell Housing ? Reason I ask is , the 261 Six that was optional 60-62 was green , 235s were gray

Yes. I got it from KBS coatings. I brushed the block and sprayed the oil pan and valve covers. Since these trucks had gray and green engines I wanted to stay with one of the colors.

Thanks. I just looked at their products. I think I will definitely go with their kit. My motor has a little surface rust on the pan and their etch seems like it would do the trick.

Bell housing in paint. Now I’m trying to find the correct flywheel dust cover for it. Not much information on it.

Looks great! I believe these bell housings used a 2-piece cover like this:
