65 Suburban fuel tank sender wiring

Looking for info on fuel tank sender wiring. The fuel tank wiring has been pulled off on my suburban. Wiring diagram is not showing color of wires, going bug eyed looking at wiring diagrams. Is the ground attached onto the frame? what color is the sender wire that runs along the frame from the gauge? Thanks for any info.

Could be wrong, but I think the fuel sender wire is tan.

Re: 65 Suburban fuel tank sender wiring

Thanks for the reply. My wiring off of the sender has been changed to purple/Black. I dropped the tank to find out that the black is the ground. I changed the purple to tan and hooked it to the tan wire that wasn't hooked up inside the frame rail. Hope it works I will find out when I get it running.

Purple wire would be on a newer truck, 80's thru today. If Sender is newer version, OHMS are different Gas gauge Won't read correct.

Re: 65 Suburban fuel tank sender wiring

on my 64 panel the power wire is tan and the other wire I made green, goes to frame, gas gauge is 0 to 30 ohms, if you replace the fuel sender you need to get the correct ohm fuel gauge, hope this helps, newer fuel gauges now will be 0 ohms to 90 ohms, you still can order the replacement fuel sending unit, that will match the original fuel gauge.
