car trailer size? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Have any of you guys ever towed a lowered 67-72 chevy truck or blazer 2wd on a trailer; with the truck still having the factory bumper? How wide is the trailer between the fenders and how tall are the fenders?

I found a trailer but it is only 78" inches between the fenders and it has 14" tires with drop axles so the fenders are 11 1/2" tall. This gives me concern getting on and off the trailer and in and out of the truck.

The factory bumper mesures 80" I thought about making the fenders removable but I am not sure if that will really give me that much more room. The tires I have are wide and that give me a mesurment of 77" across the front.

Any help would be appricated, thank you.

as far as gettin in and out of the truck just leave the window down ,it seems to work in nascar

You could always use a winch to take it on and off.

Flatbed trailers(with sides and wood bottoms) aren't really meant to haul cars, but we do anyway. My truck is lowered 3/5, not sure if yours is lowered, but it was almost tight side to side so you might want to check your wheel base. Also, I backed the truck up onto a set of truck ramps so it lowered the rear of the trailer. That way the loading ramps were more inline with the angle of the trailer to avoid hitting bumper or rockers when you came over the back. Also the trailer I used had 14" side rails. So what I did is went to home depot and got 4 2x10's 16ft long and stancked them on each side and screwed them down. Not only did this clear the body more above the sides, it also allowed me to open the door. Not to mention this distribues the weight more evenly across the trailer instead of one crossmember supporting the whole front of the truck.

get one with a beaver tail (i think thats what its called). where the whole trailer bottom isnt one flat piece. the first part of it is angled slightly.

A tilt trailer like the one mentioned above would work, but those are a little pricey, or you can get the cheaper ones.
