Starter - pmgr
Just recently picked up a 1970 gmc long bed truck yesterday. Previous owner did not have a ton of information on it but a prior owner to him swapped in what appears to be a 1980s truck 207 block that appears to be rebuilt or at least a lower miles as it runs very smooth with a edelbrock eps intake, edelbrock carb, and headers.
I am doing the general maintenance plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and oil change. While there wanted to change the starter motor over to a pmrg since I want to run new positive cables. I am newer to Chevy engines as I have owned more fords. Just checking I get the right starter. Would I lookup a 1996 Silverado 5.7 auto and use it? Was looking at this https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/c...=starter&pos=0 |

Re: Starter - pmgr
That starter will need 11610633 starter bolt. Or an equivalent.
I use the 337-1022 for a pn to cross over for the starter. Have 4 on our fleet of old trucks.

Re: Starter - pmgr
If the present starter is working w/o issue why change? Change for the sake of change is one of the biggest reasons for posts about how do I fix X on vehicle forums.

I know nothing about the truck. Trying to do all the maintenance and odds and ends that might cause a break down.

They're the only ones I use for starters and alternators.

Re: Starter - pmgr
Thanks. I did some googling and it seems a 96 tahoe is a good lookup vehicle. Found a gm number for one. Sent db electrical a message to confirm if that right and what one from them I should use.

Re: Starter - pmgr
I’ve had two DB starters fail on me . One in my Chevelle and the other in the 72 . Not bashing them but it turned me away from them . Been using Powermasters with out a clitch . Have them in three cars for a while now . Just my experience YMMV
