How far do wing windows open?

How far do wing windows open? Mine opens 90 degrees so they are perpendicular to the door. They scratch the door paint if I try to open them farther.

If I could open it past 90 degrees it would really direct the wind into the cab.

This isn't a great pic. I'll try to take a better one.

Re: How far do wing windows open?

That looks like it is open fully. There is a stop built installed on the pivot shaft to limit the windows movement.

Photo one shows the window fully open with arrow pointing to the limiting tab.

In the second photo the arrow shows the limiting tab in the fully open position.

Photo three shows the window half open..

It should be possible to modify the limiting tab to allow the window to open further. GM had a reason to put the tab in. It might have been to prevent stressing of the upper pivot point. GM doesn’t install pieces without a good reason.

Re: How far do wing windows open?

Thanks W0455, I didn't know about the limeter. When I bought the truck a few years ago
the wing window rubber was all cracked up. Every piece of hardware in the bottom of the wing window was rusted solid and half the metal was gone deteriorated away. I bought new wing windows at LMC and I didn't test to see how far they open before I put them in. I can't open mine very far because they hit the door. I can open them a little more than 90°. Maybe it's 100°. If I've got a limiter on these new wing windows, it's not a factor. Hitting the door happens first.

Re: How far do wing windows open?

Something’s not right with your vent window. The shaft is bent or the frame is tweaked, or something. The angle of the window in your pic in post 3 is too great.

Its brand new. I think that's the problem. Reproduction parts as kind of lousy I guess.
