Re: Another Radiator question

Don't know if this helps but on my 68 C10 LS swap I bought a Afco generic LS swap radiator. Single Spal electric fan. Cut out the radiator support opening to expose the cooling tubes as much as possible. See pic.
Purchased it from Speedway Motors.
Here in sunny MN we don't hit 121 temps but I have driven the C10 in 100 degree temps in heavy traffic and it never got above 205. I'm running a 180 degree thermostat. Fan controlled by the ecm.

Re: Another Radiator question

Thats one clean engine bay.

Well since Amazon is free returns, then audition it to see if it fits. Modern cars/trucks all have these plastic fans now. I suspect engineering has come to these types.

You may need spacers for the holes if the center hub does not sit flush against your setup where fan attaches.

Re: Another Radiator question

I believe with a supercharger I would be looking at dual electric fans that covered the whole radiator. That way you don't have to worry about that spacer or the distance into the shroud. And (good) non-clutch fans are HP robbers.

Re: Another Radiator question

If going EL fans, don't go cheap. Get brushless. You will need a minimum of 2-30amp relays for them and an alternator at least 100 amps

I did have a setup, like you mentioned, with dual Spal fans. Didn’t work at all. With temps in the 80s and driving 70 mph Ihad temp creep up to 215⁰. Going with the factory shroud and direct drive fan help get rid of that problem.

I was running a setup like you mention with dual Spal fans. I used one 80 amp relay and my alternator is 160 amp.

Those fans didn't work at all.

Nice clean setup. Looks like a good possibility. My GMC center section unbolts.

Re: Another Radiator question

On all my LS swaps I have used a single Spal 16" fans. Never had a heating issue. I think one of the reasons it works for me is that the fan covers the radiator from top to bottom. And all of the radiators were/are dual pass so the coolant goes by the fan twice before going back in the engine.
Some would say the complete covering of the radiator with a electric fan shroud without relief holes restricts air flow.
This is a pic of my 67 Nova with 427 cube LS. Did just under 500 RWHP on the chassis dyno. Running a single 16" Spal fan. Never came close to overheating.

Re: Another Radiator question

Live in Texas so feel you pain. On my 68 f100 360 fe & 78 bronco 400 did the champion american eagle rad (2 core but bigger tubes), champion shroud with spal fans, dakota digital fan controller.

I tried flushes, flowkooler thermostats, extreme thermal fan clutches and the above combo is the only thing that worked. Both have vintage air as well. Plan on doing the same in my 70 c1500 that I just got.

Re: Another Radiator question

I bought a 96 Vortec 454 with serpentine belts/reverse flow system. I have the fan/fan clutch off of of it I can measure for you to see if something like that would work for you. It's in poor shape with bent blades but might give you another fan option.
