That's a great question...here's another one that you inspired: How many of our trucks have this feature, a signature of a prior owner, and we don't know it? I found this because of the seatbelt project, had to remove the bench seat. The owner who sold this to me had it for 11 years and he never uncovered this artifact (we can't really assume how many owners the truck has had...we just know that Dave S. did work on it circa 1989 and had the bench seat out then...likely for body repair and painting since we can see the overspray on the interior).
