I have the flexible joint mirror arm on my '71 GMC Jimmy. I think they did that so you could get a lower angle sight picture from the mirror. The sight angle being lower thru the back window glass with a hardtop on.
I find mine's too flexable. It doesn't wobble at high speed, but everytime I put my mylar/bubble reflector shade in the windshield -- which is whenever it's parked in AZ -- the focus gets knocked around.
There might be a way to tighten it up under the rubber cover -- I haven't messed with it.
