Don't Laugh! WTB - RARE Dash Pad

Sandlewood?!? Yep, I NEED one! Well, Rick at Rick's Truck Parts sez: Good freakin' luck!
Anybody got a decent driver condition Sandlewood dash pad for my '70 Shorty? Its a tan color and nobody makes a replacement apparently. I don't want to change out the entire interior color to get a dash pad!! Help a Chebby Bro out wouldja??!! Hunter

I've been passively looking too. My interior is parchment with the Sandlewood dash pad and steering column. It seems to be the only color they don't reproduce. I think they do make the dash pad covers (the hard plastic that sticks over the top of the original dash pads). Not ideal, but it might work until you located a top quality real dash pad.

Have you guys ever tried the vinyl spray paint? Don't know if they match your color, but had good luck on an old Pontiac dash once.

I've had good luck with the vinyl spray paint. Just make sure it is clean before you spray it. I wiped mine down with paint thinner before spraying. Plasti-cote makes a color that is very close to the original sandlewood called buckskin. the plasti-cote part # is 419. SEM makes a good vinyl spray too, but I couldn't find a color as close to sandlewood as plasti-cote's buckskin.

So you just buy a new black or gray pad and vinyl PAINT it? Does it last in the sun? I'm thinking about swapping out the interior color to Saddle, but REALLY don't want to do that. Didn't realize these Sandlewood dash pads were that hard to find. My dash is so wasted that the stick-on cover probably wouldn't work worth a darned....
I switched out the steering column when the auto went in. Had a green one, painted it tan. That worked OK, but it was out of the truck and easy to do a good job on. Vinyl paint? Hmmmmmm H.

That is the same suggestion I was going to make(spray paint). They also make a vinyl dye that might work don't they?

I painted a new black GM one with Martin Senour vinyl spray over 10 years ago, and it still looks good.

Just don't buy a NEW one and spray it---paint won't stick to the new eurthane. Get a good original to recolor.

The brown in LMC is much darker than the Sandlewood.

I have a perfect (no cracks or warping) USED original that is lt brn/saddle. A coat of fresh vinyl paint would make it "show" condition...$50
OR
A NEW repro, made of vinyl, like the originals and redyeable...$85

Email me if either of these will help.

Hunter, Is this what color you are looking for? They used to make the sandlewood but I don't believe the still make it. This is a new one I have had in stock for a while. Most guys don't go back with this color so it never was a big seller.

You could just put a new black one in, unless you want everything to match. I like a little color in a interior.

THANK YOU to All Who Posted

Got one on the way. I think we ought to have a "Worst Ever Dashpad" removed from truck thread. I'll start out with mine when it comes out!
Now as far as installing the dashpad.... tell the truth.... how many speed nuts did YOU skip??? Hunter

The dash in my 68 C20 is sandlewood and in good condition. The visors and steering column and wheel are similar. The door panels were similar under the cloth some one had glued to the doors.
