The brackets and accessories are indeed worth quite a bit. The Sanderson headers are expensive. The 010 casting number confirms the block is a 350. It could be a two or four bolt main. Out of a 3/4T truck ups the chances it's a four bolt block. If it was rebuilt correctly you will have a keeper. Having machine shop documentation is something that I would have kept but not everyone does.

I tracked down an alleged 327 for a fella a while back. Came in his C10 and was sold with the 327 verbally. I was suspicious when I saw the three letters on the end of the block stamping. The stamping had only two letters till 1970 and GM built the last 327 in 1969. He was close, it was a 307.

Still, one can read people and get a general idea of their integrity.

People lie, for sure.One of my younger sisters bought a '66 Malibu with a "4-bolt main 350". Years later, the radiator popped and it overheated badly. I pulled it apart to rebuild it. Small journal 327.

Thanks again for all the input guys

I ended up purchasing it this morning and it’s in my possession now. It’s got a new 200+ amp alternator (so I’ll be running an e-fan), Performer intake, Edelbrock 4bbl carb with electric choke, TCI starter, MSD distributor, Sanderson headers (which look to be quite expensive), new wires/plugs, and fresh oil/filter replaced yesterday.

Should be a fun project replacing the i6 250 that’s in the ‘69 c10. It’ll probably be a few months before I get around to it.

I need to purchase a new hoist. If anyone has an engine hoist recommendation, please let me know.

He actually came by a second time and dropped off a set of motor mounts that he had.

If oil was changed before you picked it up, then he’s covered up the shiny little metal flakes found in the oil and filter.
So did he change it prior to pick up?

That was ultimately what made me go with it. Seller seemed upstanding, we spent 45min together, compared projects, etc.

I think you have a couple of options, tear into it and check it out, or put it in and go for it. If the guy seemed decent, i would take a chance on it. Looks like you got some good parts with it. Should be an easy swap. Good luck with it.

Lots if skepticism on this one. Sometimes you actually get a good deal. If seller had a good running motor and wanted a BB, I can see this motor actually being nothing more or less, a decent used engine. Risky buy but most of the accessories are decent and would easily add up to half the price and reusable. I'd go for it to.
As for hoist and stand, can't beat good old Harbor Freight for home level use. I've owned both for close to 20 years. Used less than 10 times but really glad I bought even though I likely stressed the bank account at the time.

Pos #9 shows the Dress Code numbers as well as a VIN.
Truck engines did not come with VINs, even new, as it was assumed the truck would have a longer service life than one engine's run.
Cars, however had VIN numbers for security purposes.
Your stamped Dress code reads:
V = Flint, MI, 2nd - [V8] engine line/ 09 = September, 05 = 5th day/ TSY. [?]

You should be able to run down this partial VIN stamped in front of the Dress numbers.

Only if they're RED, with a shortened Long Bed, Lowered, have Rubber Bands for tires and found listed on Craigslist.
Apparently GM had a third V8 line in Flint, dedicated to producing ten powerplants for each Corvette sold. As they were sure the original owners would burn them up racing.

My .02 cents...


Motor looks good and it should be a 350. $1,500 isn't chump change but not crazy espensive for a used 350 motor.

I'd run it as is or find a way to run it before installing to check compression and listen for any unusaul noises.

I think you got a decent deal and only time will tell if it was worth it.

Make sure it is tall enough. For a truck, the boom has to reach over the core support and then down at a angle to the top of the engine. If the chain between the boom and engine is too long, you have to really fight to drag the engine back over the core support.
They'll give you a total lifting height, but that won't help you if the boom is laying on the core support and the end of the boom is still a foot and a half above the engine.

^ I've let the air out of the front tires in a pinch, to gain more clearance to pull an engine.
