Back from the Grand Canyon

1st off Sleeping on Amtrak in a Maybe 8’x8’ compartment SUCKS. Never again
The Train coming home was 4 hours late causing me to change flights costing me $190.

Ok Rant is Done
The Train out of Williams was a blast, lots to see and they had a Bar. They put on a Cowboy Show before you go to the Canyon (2 hour ride) and get Robbed on the moving Train on the way back. Almost dropped my phone in the canyon after fumbling and dropped it about 2 “ from the edge
Had a Great Steak Dinner at the Arizona Steakhouse overlooking the Canyon
Lots of walking, weather was perfect , high 70’s to mid 80’s saw lots of the Canyon. Thing was you looked at it from different angles and never saw the same thing twice. Truly one of the Magnificent 7 Wonders of the World

This is just a small sample of the hundreds of pictures the wife took

I am pretty sure i had the same trip years ago. I remember getting "robbed" on the way back also. That was a fun trip.

Ditto the experience, right down to the shameless robbery! But I took a shuttle bus from Williams to the train and back.

Right. Amtrak to Flagstaff then a shuttle from Flagstaff to Williams then a 2 hour Train Ride to the Canyon from Williams

Re: Back from the Grand Canyon

The train ride from Williams sounded fun. Wish we would have done that when we were there in May. We've been down there a couple times now so chances of going back are pretty slim. So many other neat places to see

OK. Worst part of our visit was the shuttle back to Flagstaff. There was construction on the road where the interchange was, to turn off for Flagstaff. Sawhorses with flashing lights, and all. The driver mowed down about 7 of them before stopping and kicking some out of the way. He then swerved out into 70 MPH traffic (towing that trailer full of luggage) on that blind curve. I was sure we were all going to die. Busted the snot out of the front of the van- one headlight out, grille in pieces. We reported it to the company that arranged the itinerary, but they said nobody else had complained. Probably just a CYA response.

I've hiked it twice as a yute....wouldn't/couldn't now, but one thing I will say, the hell with mules, and their right-of-way.

Re: Back from the Grand Canyon

We are fortunate to only be a few hours from the canyon. I’ve been 3 times in the last 5 years alone. I will have to look into the train ride from Williams some more. I’ve heard of it but never been. My kids would really like that. We stay in Williams when we go so it’s a no brainer. For those who drive, a bout 45 minutes from the Navajo Nation canyon entrance there is a town called Cameron that has a really cool historic trading post with Navajo jewelery and such. Definitely worth the visit. With my wife being Navajo I see that kind of stuff all the time but my pale face family loves to go there when they visit

Re: Back from the Grand Canyon

We also took the train from Williams to the Grand Canyon and stayed at the Grand Canyon Lodge a few years ago, awesome trip. We are a bit spoiled because we have our own Durango to Silverton train in our hometown that we have taken many times over the years. Wished we would have spent more time in Williams.
