47-55.1 Under bed gas tank with side feed?

Any GM EFI/TBI tank can work. Then it will be baffled, have return port, breather and can take a combo pump/sender. Then, say an in-tank Walbro or Aeromotive pump for longevity. In the tank, the fuel surrounding the pump will run cooler, so minimize the challenge of " how far can I go on this tank". It shortens the life of the pump.
I just went for the 'Tanks' 50 Chevy for size, EFI ready, custom sender capable for the Bosch gauge and filler location... and it was about the same as anything else new. I think cheaper than what some are charging for the custom between the frame aluminium AD Chevy truck tanks.

I purchased a Boyds Welding LLC 63-72 Side fuel tank, set up for my EFI,
this is on my 58 Cameo and planning on filling just behind the Cameo Taillight
to gain access to the gas fill.

You might want to look over there tanks to see if one will work for your truck?

No matter how you do it getting the tank out of the cab is the best thing you can do.

Forgot to say i am using C4 Front and rear on my truck also with Flat Out Engineering kits.

did you run tailpipes out the rear past or under the tank? That is one of OP's concerns.

Haven't gotten that far yet, but plan is to run my exhaust up and over each side of the center of the diff OR just under the center of the diff.
I've seen it done both of those ways on other trucks and seams to work? and then maybe along side the tank and out each side?

Got my oldest Son, my Engineer, looking at it to determine the best route, Lol..

Originally Ran mine down before tank due to concerns. The ungodly drone made me reconsider fast and ran them under tank but with sufficient heat clearance. 4" lift gives you many options you don't get on stock or lowered.

I'm doing the same with a C4 FlatOut Engineering Kit on my 55.1 GMC 100!

A 68-70 El Camino fuel tank has the same dimensions as the amount of room I have available for a tank which is 42 x 25 x 9!

I do want a side feed into the fender on the drivers side.

Have any of you tried that tank in your AD truck?

And if so how is it working out for you?

Summit has them for 329.00 with notched corners and set up for efi!

I am going with a 68-70 El Camino tank from Summit ( Tanks inc.) that is EFI ready.

I want a side fill via drivers fender and I think this will work for me.

on my 57 I put the filler door on the topof the raer fender behind the wheel. it has to sit far enough out for the door to clear the body when it is opening. i used a filler door from a scrap envoy I had laying arond and bent it to fit the shape of the fender. my tank is a belly tank along the inside of the frame and 1/2 way under the cab so it has a bit of a run to get from the filler to the tank. it works well as far as I can tell when filling with a 5 gallon gas can tipped upside down. no burps, fills quick. the filler entry is inside the fender and is a stock envoy filler which has been shortened a little to fit the hose over the frame. the hose from the filler to the metal filler pipe was just generic fuel hose from the hydraulic shop.

This placement allows easy filling with little or no spillage if careful. It also allows the nozzle to rest away from fender, bed and rear bedpost while filling. No its not touching post but resting on edge of brake light support. I use a vented locking cap which also works well.

I was thinking of cutting the area around the filler neck in the cab out of a junk cab and welding it into the fender to use the stock grommet on the fender. Make it look like that is where it was when the truck left the factory .

here are a couple better pics of my schlomozle. it took a bit to get the original cut out surround bent correctly and then the door bent correctly but it fits pretty well now, opens without the door hitting the box rail and is spring loaded so it stays closed. rubber bumpers are from a 2015 silverado, its my daily driver so I looked at that and figured those bumpers would work well. drilled a couple holes and pushed them in.

here is the step by step. I did it, you can too. it doesn't have to be in the same spot, the process is the same. cut the area around a fuel door from a donor, trim it so it has a small flange to weld to, cut the hole in the fender where you want the door, bend the door surround and the door so it fits the contour of the body nicely from the backside of the fender, cleco it in place or use self drilling sheet metal screws (teck screws), then tack weld it in place, fit as you go to achieve a good fit and test the door periodically to ensure it opens and closes correctly. keep tacking until the spots are about an inch apart, ensuring not to heat the parts up-you need to take time-use compressed air to cool the parts-dont tack again until the parts are cool enough you COULD put your tongue on it without getting seared, then start tacking about 4 tacks in a row so each tack starts on the last tack and makes a continuous weld as you go. keep cooling the parts off, soon you are done and can grind the area smooth and do the final metal finishing

I used the factory grommet, but just cut a slightly undersize hole in the fneder then turned the edge down using a pair of pliers, bit at a time. Took about 5 minutes.
