Re: 1968 help

Also, what are my options for cylinder heads if I cannot find a 3895052 or 3927763?

Re: 1968 help

All the L6 series engines use the same head,
Just don't get a later head with integrated manifold.

Re: 1968 help

OP, what makes you think that the head you have can't just have a valve job?

Re: 1968 help

Steveedee makes a good point. If you do have your head in for a valve job, ask the machinist to use Stellite valve seats. The originals were made to run with TetraEthylLead additive in the gas. That stuff's been illegal in Cal for 25 years.
Stellites are better equipped to handle the goofy gas we get nowdays.

If you do find another L6 Head, it will need a valve job anyway, if not other machining operations.

Re: 1968 help

I took the head in and it had a giant crack and it could not be fixed. I kept the parts and discarded the head. My uncle found a head that is for an earlier 261 engine. My uncle thought it would fit. It has casting number of 3836850. I know there were 2 heads available for a 67-72 250, and those 2 heads also for a 230 & 292. Gonna pull this motor and see if it’s ok. It was running fine when I broke the timing gear. I discovered the head was cracked replacing the timing gear. When I had to pull everything to replace the timing gea, I pulled the head t get a valve job. The shop found the crack and I bought a new house about (1992) that time. I had to tow the truck to a friends house because I was not allowed to park vehicles on the street. Then my parents moved to the lake and built a shop, so Dad and I put it son a trailer and brought it to his shop in 2011. Did a little work and quit, just now getting back into it.
