Removing old Dash Pad?
Ok got to doing a little work on the interior today and tried (notice tried) to get the old dash pad off, but there's nuts inside the dash that I can't get to to save my life, is there some trick to this?
I took the glovebox insert out to get to the ones on the passenger side but I really don't want to remove the dash bezel but is that the ONLY way to do it? |

I too need to know this. Mine is original and cracked to bits. I started taking it off, and ended up half ripping it. Guess I'll be buying one for sure.

They are little speed nuts and they are really tough to reach. IF I remember right, I took all the screws out of my dash bezel and pulled it forward just enough to get my arm ober and behind the top of it. It think it's the only way.

Yeah, I have tried to reach them from below, and everytime I end up pulling the bezel. I think it is the only way.

I think pulling the bezel is the only way even then its kinda tricky the end screw on the driver side is in a tricky place.

best off to pull the dash cluster, you probably needed to have a look back there anyway... you can reach all the nuts without removing it, but the problem is there's not enough room to turn a wrench or get a socket on the ones that are toot tight to get by hand...
I put mine back on with wing nutz, and now I can remove it without pulling the cluster.

When I try and pull the bezel it only comes a couple of inches and it seems the speedo cable is going taught, how do I unhook that? Does it just pull out or do I have to remove it at the trans?

Gauge cluster out of the way, radio removed, on A/C cabs may need to get the center vent out, and the glove box need to be out. This makes it easy to replace and you can clean at the same time. DON'T
Over tighten the nuts on the studs. I learned the hard way and it had to be right in front of the steering wheel. Oh well! Good Luck, Matthew

speedo cable unscrews from the back of the speedo... oil pressure line for the gauge must also be removed from the back of the gauge... you may also have to drop the steering column a bit if you have a tach cluster, so the delicate circuit board clears the dash opening...

Yes it has a tach so guess I gotta let the steering drop a bit to get it outta the way.

The "Check the Oil Line for Clogs" method simultaneously achieves the critical "Rust Preventative Treatment" for most of the interior's floor so don't forget this important step that the above obviously experienced individual mentions.
ALSO! Do not skip ONE SINGLE speednut in the installation or your differential will explode within a week and you will be denied access to Chevy Heaven when the time comes. I'll let you know how MY dashpad install goes!!!! :p H.
