Tired of waiting for the dual allternator pulleys to be in stock so I bought the single alternator belt to run the motor. It was only like $26 so no big deal.
Got the 3 inch exhaust tubing kit. Just need mufflers now. Figured out how to run the factory oil dipstick with the lower profile oil pan. I just have to weld on a tab since the bolt hole is too low. It will be tight on the firewall but should make it. Worked on my Halloween decorations. Halloween is my favorite holiday. This year added a simple old run down cooler with fake blood, food coloring and random fake body parts wrapped in bags or saran wrap with fake blood inside. Nothing spectacular to announce but I spent the day learning how to operate the Holley software. I uploaded a couple global files to the ECU and finally got it pretty much how I want. I can now definitely confirm that the Holley software is much easier to use than HPTuners. After just a few hours I feel comfy that I will be able to tune the motor about as well as I have my other LS swap with a factory ECM. So far I am pleased with Holley terminator X max. I should be able to start the motor on the stand soon. Just waiting on a couple parts for the fueling system to arrive.

This one is very exciting for me! While I just almost blew a gasket at the results of the Bears vs Commanders game, I did finish the design of my fuel system. The holley filter regulator will be near the tank as they suggest. My flex fuel sensor do-dad just so happens to mount perfectly to the Holley fuel rails. The line from the rear will come to the flex fuel thingy and run between the 4 and 6 intake runner and go beneath the intake to a Y adapter. From the Y the equal lengths go to the rails on the back. The front of the rails just tie together.
All lines and fittings are Evil Energy AN-8 lines bought entirely off of Amazon. Basically I am 95% ready to test fire on the stand. |

Brushless Spal fan from a camaro is on the way. Only 1 more thing on my white board list. Mufflers. I am deciding whether I want to go up to 18 inch case (vs 14 inch) this time. I love that V8 muscle sound but I am getting older and tire from the noise. I want aggressive sound but still want to be able to make a phone call.
Day after halloween and I am going to begin the swap. |

WOW! I have been dicking around for two days trying to get my PWM Camaro fan running. I finally got it and want to add the issue here.
This video was the thing that helped me figure out the issue. I was using output B12 in the holley software was one problem and I moved it to B10 based on the chart he had in the video. The biggest issue though is that I was using a power supply to power the Holley on my "Bench (dining room floor)" and a car battery to power the fan. Well I needed to hook the holley and the fan up to the same battery. Once I did both of those things, I was able to provide the PWM signal from either my cheap amazon PWM generator device or the holley. This means that if I want to install the fan on my Blazer with the old motor, I can do that with the DROK signal generator. Once the motor is swapped and I am using the holley terminator X max, I will beall set up because I have already configured the ECU on the bench. FYI, I am setting the max duty cycle at 60% because the fan basically puts out almost max output by the time you hit like 54%. Well, It was nagging me to death. I wanted a black holley hi ram from the start but they do not make ont for Gen 5 motors yet. I was going to just leave it the aluminum color but I accidently got oil or grease on the lid somehow. I finally decided to use the cerakoat glacier black that I had from when I cerakoated my Regal manifolds. I am glad that I finally did it.
It took 3 bake cycles at 350 degrees, a ton of acetone and dish soap scrubs and a couple sandblasting sessions. I smoothed a couple flaws in the casting by sanding and then sandblasted everything for the final texture with Black diamond blast media. It should be cured enough to handle it tomorrow night so I can place it on the motor to see the results. |

It has been a while since I posted something specifically audio related in this thread. I am just adding the photo of my freshly Vinyl wrapped second hand HD900/5. Unfortunately, the vinyl had a crease in it due to storage but it does not look too bad. I will stack this amp in the bottom and you will not be able to see the line.
Second update is about the motor. I got the motor mounts installed and this thing is ready to drop in. I just have to make the custom standoffs that will bolt to the motor mounts. I wanted to do rubber mounts this time but just went ahead and did polyurethane. |

I did a preliminary leak test on my fuel system. I used DOT airline, shop compressor fittings, Fuel line AN fittings and my fuel pressure regulator. I used 60 PSI just like the engine will run and soapy leak solution to look for bubbles. This should help minimize any fuel leaks when I hook up the actual fuel to the lines. I would love to test fire this motor during my 4 days off for Thanksgiving weekend.

Decision has been made. I decided that I truly do love the magnaflow sound over the other brands. I chose to go with the 4x9x 18 inch versions this time to reduce some of the noise. My regal sounds great but I would love a little less. If this is still too loud for me, I can simply upgrade to the 4x9x22 inch and it should be a happy medium.

Waiting for a few pop up parts that are needed to start the engine has delayed the start. However, I am pleased to find out that I do in fact build oil pressure. I have added 6.1 qt of Mobile 1 synthetic 5W30 as required and all I need now is the adapter for my exhaust flanges. I went with 3 inch exhaust tubing which is a problem because my manifolds are 2.5 inch. I should have the adapters tomorrow as well as the couple other minor parts. I have turned the motor over with the starter though and there are no issues so far.
Resistor may be needed for the flex fuel sensor Plugs will replace the brass ones that I am using currently. Mufflers will give an idea of what the beast will sound like and keep from pissing off my neighbors when I start it. There is a newborn baby next door and I like my neighbors so I will give them a warning before I start it. |

I got a little welding done today. I got the reducers welded to the flanges. I cooked the first one so you will not see that. It usually takes me a minute to get the right settings. I also believe that I ran out of Argon in the process. That sucks. I hope my other bottle is not empty. We will see.

Worked late but found time to fit up and tack weld the down pipes. Tomorrow I will finish the down pipes and get the 02 sensor bung welded in. Then I just need to supply fuel for a start up on the stand.

Upset the wife today! I baked the moisture out of my NP205 transfer case so that I can put a coat of primer on it. It is super cold outside at the moment so I was not spending a ton of time in the garage today. Tomorrow I will try to get the bumper off so that I can get the core support off. I definitely want to have it off when I am positioning the new motor. it is just easier to move around and less to get in my way. I chose this primer because I know that old guys have sworn by this stuff for years when painting motors. The top coat will be antige satin nickel. It is the same stuff I painted the water pump and aluminum accessories. It will look exactly like those. It should be plenty durable. Not like I am worried about this thing rusting through. It is thick and very heavy.

This illustrates why I converted my Gen 5 direct injected motor to Gen 4 port injection. I took a photo of the intake valves when I got the motor. They had the typical carbon buildup of the D.I. system even with only 21,000 miles on the motor. After only about 4 minutes max of me running this thing on the stand, you can already see that the port injected fuel has begun cleaning the valve carbon. This shows why many manufacturers run both port and direction. The direct injection offers more power and efficiency while port injection keeps the valves clean ang has better cold starts.
You can see that the carbon is less "chunky". There is also less carbon on the intake above the valve stem. Gasolene is a great cleaner. I am pleased with this result. |

that primer left an awesome finish on the cast even with the brush. i bet the gallon can is WAY cheaper than the same qty in rattle cans!
are you sanding the primer off the 205 housing mating surfaces? i've always kept them bare, but never had anyone argue one way or the other. down in the bores however, i'd be worried things won't slip-fit with that heavy coat. |
