It is dirty work but worth it in the end. Yours is going to be sweet.

Re: "Dixie" 1988 Chevrolet V30 3+3 Dually
Since my Bilsteins arrived yesterday and today was a short work day - I figured I would bolt those in and call it a day. Happy to finally have the rear suspension all tied up, but the frame is filthy from all the wire brushing underneath.
Hoping to have the bottom all cleaned up this week and I will start on the metal work on the inner rockers. I am leaning to spray the bottom with Raptor liner and continuing to finish the frame rails with Magnet Chassis Saver topped with matte black Rustoleum.

Re: "Dixie" 1988 Chevrolet V30 3+3 Dually
Last week I finished cleaning and painting the frame rails up to the front leaf springs. I want to get the truck running and am focusing on the fuel system now.
I wanted to clean up the fuel pump before connecting the new fuel line so I pulled it off this afternoon and cleaned it. A couple coats of paint and we are back in business. What I started with: Cleaned and painted: I’ll install it this weekend with the new fuel line.

My next focus is the rear wiring harness while I am waiting to finish up the fuel system. The rear harness was mangled and needed to be replaced. I built a new rear harness for my ‘86 C30 and still had materials left over.
The rear harness is built with SXL wire and wrapped in the mesh conduit.

Re: "Dixie" 1988 Chevrolet V30 3+3 Dually
Happy 4th of July to everyone!
Today was a short day. I ordered new door strikers and installed those today while adjusting the doors. They close so much nicer than before, it always makes me laugh when people get a running start to slam the door closed haha. That won’t be the case with these. I also installed the fuel pump and ran the new fuel line. I picked up clips to keep the line tucked up out of the way and protect. Tomorrow I am painting the drive shafts, auxiliary battery tray, and a couple other parts. Hoping to have this truck running in the next two weeks.

Re: "Dixie" 1988 Chevrolet V30 3+3 Dually
Any particular reason for not running the K5 tank mounted backwards so that the fuel filler would be on the driver side? That is how we are doing my buddies truck... just to make it easier for fill-ups when pulling a goose neck.

Re: "Dixie" 1988 Chevrolet V30 3+3 Dually
Things are moving along. I want to have the truck moving next weekend to start working the bugs out.
First up was finishing the exhaust. The truck will be a driver, but I wanted to clean the exhaust pipes up a bit and try “High Temp” paint on it to see how it would hold. Excuse the gold drop cloth haha.

Re: "Dixie" 1988 Chevrolet V30 3+3 Dually
My brake lines arrived from Inline Tube. This is the second time I have used them and am again very pleased with their product. I am waiting on my extended rear brake hose from ORD, but everything is ready once it arrives next week. I will swap out the bolts on the rear cover back to all black once they arrive.
Sprayed them with satin clear: Installed.

Re: "Dixie" 1988 Chevrolet V30 3+3 Dually
The last outstanding pieces were finishing painting the crossmember and second driveshaft. The crossmember I modified when I was running the new exhaust system to make sure I had clearance and the driveshaft needed new u joints (they were caked with mud and I was missing some needles in the cups). I had a good friend replace the joints as he gets a great discount on MOOG parts.
Wired wheels and stripped clean Hung and ready for the first coat of Chassis Saver paint. I ran out on Sunday so during our conference call I put in my wireless headphones and painted away on Monday morning. Thank you for wireless headphones! First coat of Chassis Saver applied After two coats of Chassis Saver, 2 coats of base, and a satin clear I will let them fully cure and then install them tomorrow.

Re: "Dixie" 1988 Chevrolet V30 3+3 Dually
Today I ran the new rear wiring harness down from the front plug to the rear. I also installed the new 7 way RV trailer plug hookup, the actual brake controller, and ran all the wiring back to the engine compartment and cab. I need to pick up a grommet for the firewall for an existing hole and will start installing the wiring harness on the brake controller.
Just checking off the “To Do” list.

Very cool and detailed build up. Any chance you'd come back on and catch us up on how far along the truck is now?
