Dash Cam Power Supply
I like leaving my dash cam on for security purposes. A couple of times I've had to jump my battery because it was drained down too far.
This is the solution I came up with. I'm using a 12v 6000 mAh lithium battery. It's being charged by a step-down constant current converter tuned to 12.5 volts whenever the ignition is on. I 3D printed a housing for it all with an outlet for the power cord. The first picture shows the components before assembly and the second shows the unit installed.

Re: Dash Cam Power Supply
Smart move, with the Dash Cam. My wife has one in her car, and I've bought some for the truck, my econobox and the motor home. Just what I need is for someone to see the motor home and think that they can make an easy buck...though I'm pretty sure that my lawyers are at least as good as theirs, and probably better.

.
Nice work! I unplugged my dash cam after realizing it was recording my constant spoken dialogue about everyone and everything I could see out the windshield. Nobody needs to know about that. -Kevin

Re: Dash Cam Power Supply
These are the components I used:
Battery pack: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I chose this one because it can charge/discharge on the same connection. It also comes with the Y cable you'll need. Buck converter (adjustable voltage regulator): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Socket: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09S678YSB...fed_asin_title So that I wouldn't need to splice the Y cable, I also bought these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The battery pack will accept 12.6 volts - anything more risks overcharging and damage to the battery pack. I connected the power regulator to the wire I intended to use for charging and adjusted the potentiometer to 12.5 volts. The rest is simple assembly. I 3D printed the housing, but you could fabricate it from Lexan or even aluminum sheet (as long as you properly isolate the circuit board). I was a little concerned that the converter might generate too much heat, but I've been using it for a couple of days and it barely gets warm.

Re: Dash Cam Power Supply
Kevin, not sure which cam you have, but I can turn audio off on mine..
My blackvue has park mode which puts the camera in standby mode, if it senses a hit it turns on instantly, it also has a battery monitor and if voltage drops to some number I can't remember, it shuts down to keep from killing the battery so far I've had no dead batteries

Re: Dash Cam Power Supply
I have the BlackVue 750 LTE, which gives me full-time cloud access via a SIM card. I can set it to power down automatically, but that would defeat the security purpose I bought it for.
