LS Swap Exhaust
What are you guys doing for exhaust for your LS swap? I am running 5.3 ls with speed engineering long tube headers.
I have looked at speed engineering kit and hooker blackheart but just havent heard them before so trying to get some feedback before choosing what i want. Goal: have a nice rumble for shows but i plan to drive and dont want it crazy loud in the cab when going down highway.

Re: LS Swap Exhaust
I used the speed engineering swap headers with a 2.5 inch stainless bend kit. I cut and welded up my exhaust with Summit racing 409 stainless 2.5 mufflers 14 inch long i believe and 3" flowmaster prebent tailpipes on my '77 k20 5.3. I didnt put in a x or h pipe, just true duals, because I was in a hurry to get it done. It sounds fine, gets noticed with the stock cam but it think its a bit loud at wide open. I dont think ls engines sound have a good sound anyways, so its all personal preference.
It cruises nice on the highway at 80, no drone or buzzing. Ive done 600 mile trips several times and its quite enough for what it is. |

Re: LS Swap Exhaust
I have a '13 (gen IV) in a '86 C10 and I used Pacesetters "shorty (block hugger) headers and the stock cats (w/ all 4 O2 sensors) and had a muffler shop do a "custom" exhaust with Xpipe and exit each side in front of rear tires.

Re: LS Swap Exhaust
I'm running headers and duals on mine..turned down in front of rear axle..
Not crazy loud, but has good tone.. The are magnaflow knockoffs, called magflow, they've since changed the name to maxflow..

Re: LS Swap Exhaust
I'll see if I can get some videos posted too. I've got an '85 with the 5.3 with Speed Engineering 1 3/4" headers. I bought an amazon X-pipe piece and a pair of Borla ProXS mufflers. Had an exhaust shop bend me up a custom 2.5" exhaust all the way out the back. Sounded really good, had a mellow idle but a very unique sound at WOT
The ProXS's started droning worse and worse as time went on until I couldn't stand it anymore. So when I swapped in the T56, I swapped to some universal Corsa's mounted behind the axle. They're entirely too loud on the outside but they're very quiet inside. Gonna add some resonators to tone it down a touch and calm down the part throttle "clap" they have but overall this is much better than the first setup

Re: LS Swap Exhaust
Help please!
I bought the speed engineering 3 inch kit with x pipe that is designed to run with their long tube swap headers, their trans mount and 4el60....tried putting on yesterday and fitment is less than ideal. Any one put this kit on? My x pipe dives down pretty hard under the drive shaft causing the rear portion of the system to sit very low which can be seen from the side.... Tried calling customer support to ask for instructions, pictures and guidance, to everyone's surprise...yeah they didnt help at all.

Re: LS Swap Exhaust
I just ran factory set up I bought from Summit and had a muffler shop adapt them to the exhaust manifold. Very quiet but as years and miles go by they are getting louder .

The angle of the headers will drive the “height” of the x-pipe. The angle of the engine & trans will drive the angle of the headers. |

Re: LS Swap Exhaust
I used the Blackheart kit on my LT engine swap with the hooker manifolds and it bolted right in.
