Re: Wow who knew?
Good Chevrolet did some special stuff for their pickups to attract the right buyers. A few Blazer's got special touches with a 396 BBC 1 of 400 give or take . see the " 72 Blazer special edition" thread.

My insurance company did the same thing but without our knowledge: I assume the VIN for my old truck didn't work and so they "fixed" it by adding zeros. The consequence? CA DMV electronically gets verification of insurance, and if the insurance lapses the DMV automatically electronically IMMEDIATELY suspends that vehicles registration. Well....I found that out about 3 months after getting the insurance, which means I was driving around for months with suspended registration. Sucker punch? Went to the DMV to fix it and they insisted the only way to fix it right there was to walk 12 feet to the electronic Kiosk and pay $15 to get a printed verification, walk back 12 feet to the desk and show them the $15 paper that their machine printed me, then they could re-register my vehicle. Good times with idiots not knowing old cars have tiny VIN........ |

Re: Wow who knew?
I renew all my reg every year online. The DMV hasn't choked on my '70, yet. Different peops at different offices make a difference? I got title on the truck (inter-family transfer) without a SMOG test and haven't had one since. That's 15 years this month. It's in a pretty good state of tune, but if they wanted to pick my nose I'd have to go back to points, and find the carburetor heat equipment that my FiL took off to help the truck run cooler.

I bought my Stepside in Pasadena in 1973. It had A.I.R. When I got to Cherry Point, NC, [1974] the guys in the hobby shop garage said it would run bettter without that smog gear, so I ditched it. I didn't have future vision -- so I didn't save the mounting bracket -- which might be of value if going to A/C on a 292. While AZ regulations also might require retaining the OEM Smog gear, as long as it passes a probe-in-the-exhaust-end test, you're good to go. Usually a thorough tune up is enough to get it thru the system. My 292 passed the ADEQ test for the 3rd straight year in a row without touching anything. Final Readings: Hydrocarbons [HC] in PPM -- 98 -- Idle Standard -- 450 -- PASS Carbon Monoxide [CO] in % -- 1.97-- Idle Std -- 5.00 -- PASS Funny thing is, I'm not sure he even put the probes to my hot rod dual exhausts. Watching thru my big-eared WC Jr mirror, I didn't see it. In other years I've had to taxi onto the big dyno rollers and run at 30 - 35 MPH in place. Lately, it's just a sniff at idle. That may be a de facto way of exempting 50+ year old vehicles, while still collecting the $12.25 ADEQ test fee. Anyway it passed, and I was able to go online to renew registration.
