Power Steering help.

Hey fellas, i have a 65 C10, PO put power steering on the truck, which is hooked up to a reman LS power steering pump. That pump feeds my Hydraulic brake booster then goes down to the power steering box. The steering is heavy and slow, makes drifting impossible. I cannot palm the wheel due to the weight.

Looking for recommendations on what i should do to hopefully acheive very light steering.... i get into a modern vehicle and the difference is day and night, i really want to keep my stock crossmember (Motor mounts welded to the crossmember and frame, as well as the crossmember having CPP lower control arms on air bags etc etc) but this is a safey concern for me, as if the truck steps out of line in a corner, its a real struggle to input steering corrections.

Heres a burnout for the other adult children in here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sP6W2RPgaiw

Re: Power Steering help.

You may want one of these? Cheaper than a rack and pinion conversion.

Wouldnt do, steering is too slow i had another guy suggest i swap to a 12:1 steering box with the thinnest T-bar i can for super light steering. I am going to try that first before i get crazy and start looking into retrofitting a rack and pinion.

Re: Power Steering help.

I suggest post pictures of your steering setup, including the center link, steering gear, and tie rods. Somebody here may spot something that can be corrected.

Re: Power Steering help.

I looked into hydroboost a while ago and recall there were a couple of different ways to plumb it. Don’t know if it is dependent on the type of pump used or ? Have also seen where two pumps are used.

I thought about going from steering gear to the hydroboost, but thr booster has a high pressure bypass for the rack so i dont think it will work.i am probably going to throw a power steering cooler on and reduce the pulley size for more pressure.
