Replace throttle cable??
How do I get the throttle cable grommet out of the firewall on my '71 GMC?? I can't find video or good picture that shows how to release it. Not an easy place for an old fat guy to work on. It whipped me pretty bad this afternoon. Old cable is too long & kinked. Thanks in Advance!

Re: Replace throttle cable??
There are two barbed tabs that have to be squeezed inward simultaneously while pushing the cable out of the hole. You can't do one and then the other because the cable will tilt in the hole and get jammed.

Re: Replace throttle cable??
THANKS!!!! A picture is worth a lotta words... & videos TOO. The pedal side is recessed so that I couldn't see the tabs. I've used hose pliers on my TV cable tabs. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!!

Re: Replace throttle cable??
I got my new cable for my 72 k2500 from the truck and car shop
http://www.truckandcarshop.com/6072.html Be sure to get one for 4wd, they are different length. Not sure if 71 is different but on my 72 the throttle return springs at the carb pull the cable and put the pedal back into position

Re: Replace throttle cable??
I removed the broken cable guide from the firewall(THANKS AGAIN pjmoreland).
All good info on replacing throttle cable on an original truck but mine has an alum intake and a small vac. secondary Holley carb. It's only about 10' from the firewall to the bracket on the carb. My cable housing is broken off at the firewall connection. The cable(braided wire) is fine but I wish I could find a a replacement cable housing or sheath approx the correct length. The pedal end of my cable has an adjustable stop nut. My cable housing broke because it was way too long and was in a bind.

Re: Replace throttle cable??
My advice is to buy the proper 2WD small block cable(or which ever powerplant you are using), and engineer it for smooth full range of throttle motion. Since you have a non stock carb and intake, some thoughtful mods will be needed to achieve this. This is not a place for hack jobs and faulty parts.
