69 C10 Wiper Motor Mount Rusted Out
My wiper motor mount has rusted completely out. I currently have a piece of 16ga steel metal in primer that is riveted to the cowl with butyl rubber (strip caulk) around the edges to seal it. I do not own a welder, so this is the best I can do right now. I was thinking about brazing in a piece of sheet metal though.
I have not been able to source a replacement sheet metal wiper mount, but did have access to a 3D scanner and ended up scanning the partial wiper mount that I had left over, in hopes that I could reverse engineer it. Since 3D printing is now available in metal, I figured that was a good way to go. Could do plastic too, but that may have its problems. I have referenced this thread from years earlier for some dimensions and shape: https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...d.php?t=649065 My questions are: Where is the hole for the wiper motor shaft located on the flat portion of the cowl? What is the hole's dimension? How far does the motor shaft stick through (top of shaft to cowl surface)? What is the height of the wiper mount from the bottom mating surface that hits the grommet to the top surface that hits the tar seal? I was thinking about using the wiper transmission link assembly to locate where the hole should go, but I wanted to be able to compare it to how it is on a stock truck. I would leave the mesh data or my model file attached here because I cannot upload an STL file type on here. If anyone has any suggestions on how to do that, it would be appreciated. I imagine, being able to 3D print the model might be useful for others in the same situation as me. You also wouldn't have to cut up another cab. I used Fusion 360 (which is free) to create my model and am using CraftCloud as my 3D printing service, for anyone looking to do the same. |

If you want to pay the postage I will send you one that I cut out of a truck I scrapped a few years ago. I think It has enough sheet metal around it that it could be welded or glued it in place. I would have to double check it to make sure. I can post a picture of it in the morning. .

I may end up priming it and riveting it in until I can get someone to weld it for me. On another topic, do you know of any way to attach files here when I am finished with that design? I have a plastic prototype on the way. If it turns out good, how could I share an STL file with the community? It seems like there are only certain types of files this forum will allow and STL is not one of them. Looks like I could upload to Thingiverse.com, but I was wondering if you knew of another method since you seem to have more experience around here. |

I would say that it will fit in a medium flat rate box or something about that size. I will do some checking this afternoon. It measures 10x7x3. If I could cut it down some it might be better.. Sorry, I don't know anything about that kind of stuff. I would try posting over in the General Discussion Forum and see if anyone over there knows about the file types.
