I really, really, really, hope he doesn't get a Mac. A Mac doesn't really suit his needs. JMO, based on my experience with them. Of course, he can get what he wants. Hey, Tim- we're talking aboutcha!

He said the computer repair is dragging. Meanwhile he has become a FB phenom because he can navigate there with his phone. He seems quite popular with the ladies. He may never come back.

haha it sounds like his needs to suit are reliability.

I have a 2005 mac that has been through 2 older kids, a computer illiterate wife, and currently a savvy 10 year old who spends all her time on youtube. when the kids had a windows machine I was fixing viruses and performance issues almost every day, I havent touched this in almost 20 years except to swap the HDD to a SSD because it would take 30 minutes to boot up, now it takes 11 seconds.

Re: Tim (Special-K)

I worked with a tempested Mac in '90. That thing crashed a lot- several times a day. I was writing FORTRAN programs and had to save at every line of code. Maybe it was the shielding? I don't know, but it gave me a really bad taste for them.

thats a long time to hold a grudge.

I run macbook pros myself, I do 3D design on them which for windows would be equivalent to an i7 64 bit desktop with at least 8GB of ram. Sometimes when I am lazy I remote into my windows 64 bit design machine from my living room (I can see the 64 bit machine from my chair) from my mac and run the CNC in comfort (I have a camera in the shop to watch the material, running simultaneously) and never had a crash let alone a slowdown. I upgrade every couple-three years and pass the old one to a family member. they are all still running great, the one i used in college for fortran and matlab and proe wildfire i can visit any time i like. amazingly stable machines, now.

Probably. Volvo's are built to withstand crashes.

I've never had a Mac but I ate 3 Big Mac's once and I crashed.

I did go to Spring Carlisle. Had a great time. I hadn't set up there in a couple years. Selling parts, buying a few things, it's always good. But I really missed seeing people I always see there. Vendors, buyers, and mostly the friends I have who stop by. Friends from here, friends from there, and friends I seem to only see at events. Miles of smiles. Life is always good when at a swap meet. Everybody's happy!

The round power cord connector had broken off and was duct taped 'just right' to connect for months. I was getting around that ok, minor adjustment when I'd notice battery not charging. But then the scroll down key went south. Also a no biggie. I just had to tap the side bar and drag down. That had been going on since sometime last winter. What caused me to haul the laptop in for repairs was the cursor started going haywire and/or freeze. I could unfreeze by wiping my fingers across the keys but it would freeze up after a while again. Or go haywire, like the page would decide to scroll to the bottom. Try reading e-mail when that happens. One minute I'm looking at today's mail, then VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV back to 2019! Just a tad frustrating. like about impossible to deal with.

So laptop goes in for cursor problem, yet obviously has a power cord problem. I really wasn't concerned with that but realized it kind of had to get repaired while he was at it. He felt the cursor thing was dirt/dust/debris he could clean out. He orders the power supply parts, they ended up being wrong, ordered again. He gets that fixed, says it's done but the scroll down button still doesn't work. No biggie, but I asked if the cursor thing was fixed. He said it still went haywire sometimes. Ok? Doesn't sound fixed to me. It would require the whole new keyboard/top component, should fix it, $75 part. "Get it". So he ordered that, it finally came in, and it's finally fixed!

I have the laptop from before this one and what killed that one was a broken power cord connection. I'm going to take it to this repair guy to see if he can still get those parts. I have found cause to feel havining a back-up computer might be a good idea!

Having a backup is a really good idea. My laptop was acting weird so I bought another and then the old one somehow fixed itself. So now I have the new one still in the box. I should probably transfer my files to the new one just in case.

I came out of my corner to acknowledge that it's a scary world. It's getting worse by the day. My corner on the other hand, still an awesome place.

They chased me back! What was that, a month? They find you everywhere. On an old house forum. "Do you like old houses?" Yes, mostly rural. "Send me a friend request so we can talk about old houses." Alright! Cut to the chase!
Um, if I'm taking a chance on you being you it isn't going to be to talk about old houses
