Re: wtb tire iron
not thinking those were in an 69-72 trucks and if they were, you are on the right web page just wrong sub group to find one. If these were in 69-up trucks the parts board for that genre would be where to look. I have searched for years to find one in any 60-66 truck and only just now found the first one still in a 66. I was pretty much convinced after 30 years of watching and looking that they never existed until I found this 66 with its original still in it.

Re: wtb tire iron
Steve it does show in the 60-66 jack stowage decal, but I wonder if that piece was optional.. Over 200 trucks and only one of them had it, was in a '62.

Re: wtb tire iron
By the way this appears to be keyed for the notch in the split rim locking rings. Think about that.

Re: wtb tire iron
yeah same here - at least 200 trucks entered and searched and zero tire tools like this, but the one that had one was my new-to-me 66 3/4 ton w/ lock ring wheels so wonder if that is why - only ever were any in 3/4 tons to begin with

Re: wtb tire iron
Is that the new AC truck? Is there a lug wrench present? Would be nice to know definitely which wrench is correct for 3/4 tons..

Re: wtb tire iron
Interestingly, the Palomino find has its jack and correct shorty 3/4 ton lug wrench and so does the Blue Chevy, so that will never happen again, but I haven't looked good enough in the GMC to see if that hubcap tool was in it. The Blue 66 Custom Camper does indeed have the hubcap tool

Re: wtb tire iron
I'm by no means an expert and am sure I haven't seen as many of these trucks as other Forum members. But, when bringing the wife's '61 Apache back to life, I ran into the same question regarding the tire iron.
In the 1960-1966 Chev/GMC Truck Factory Assembly Instruction Manual, pix 1, page 137 shows Jack & Tool Storage. Pix 2 shows the 10-20-30 Cab & Suburban storage. Pix 3 shows storage for 1405-3605. Both pixs show a tire iron. Difference in the two pictures is: the spring orientation: Note 1 at both jack illustrations and the instruction sheet. Pix 4 is Note 1, For part number see miscellaneous shipping list. I couldn't find the miscellaneous shipping list in the book for any difference in the jacks. The reproduction instruction sheet I bought (pix 5) indicates part #3773143, which is the same as pix 2. Pix 3 shows the instruction sheet as 3773144 or 3773146. The 3773141 sheet says "Equipped with optional equipment only". Wife's truck was optioned out so, I bought a tire iron from Northern Tool to complete what was illustrated. |
