Lowered 69 GMC too much

I have a 69 GMC SWB with rear leaf springs that I installed a flip kit on. It now sits too low! I think the original springs are probably worn out. I would like recommendations on what rear springs to install and a good supplier for them. I looked at Rockauto at the Dayton springs. I want some good factory type springs. Thanks!

Why do you say it’s to low? Doing a flip will get into the frame notch territory. My truck with 4 inch lowering springs was on the bump stops

I installed a c notch kit also. The drive shaft is hitting the cab on bumps, so I wont drive it until I get it fixed correctly. I think the springs were sagging to begin with. I talked to Mike Cofield and he recommended General Spring for some factory type springs.

Sounds like you have it handled . How are the cab mounts did you replace them?

I have bought leaf’s from Western Chassis they were of good quality

Re: Lowered 69 GMC too much

Yeah, i did. But I didn't replace the springs. Instead I added an Air Over Leaf bag setup.

It wasn't intuitive in that there is no simple system for our trucks. So I bought a kit and had to do some mods to get it to work. I am very pleased with the results. With around 10-12 PSI in the bags, it is a very smooth ride without the axle hitting the frame over bumps. Anytime that I put a load in it, I just pump it up to about 40 PSI or so and then hit the road.

I would highly recommend this as an alternative to replacing the leafs. The kit I bought was the RideTech p/n: 19002002. Had to cut some slots in the bottom spring plate to get the bottom bag bracket to sit close enough. Routed the air lines out to the license plate bolts and put the schrader fittings in replacement of the plate screws. Overall, very pleased with the reults.

Like above ^^ adding air bags is the way to go, you'll get two birds stoned at once by creating a smoother ride and also increasing load capacity when you need it.

Re: Lowered 69 GMC too much

To follow up on this post, I bought a set of new springs on Amazon. Everyone was out of stock and I tried Amazon and they had what I needed for about $100 cheaper. I installed them and it raised my truck 2 3/4 inches. It sits just right now. The old springs were shot I guess. Thanks for the replies. I like the airbags and will get those if I need them.

With the new springs and the flip kit how much did it lower the rear? Any pics? I’m looking at doing this to my 69 c10 also. Thanks

Looking similar info. My GMC 1/2 ton has 8 leafs which seems excessive so I wanted to remove a few.

Could you fellas add part numbers or links to the flip kit and springs you used?

Re: Lowered 69 GMC too much

I just kept pulling leafs out until it looked matched to the front. I like a little bit of rake to a truck, not dead level.
I have 3” dropped A-arms, and need to use Wilwood 2 1/2” dropped spindle to run the 14” brakes I wanna use from them.
Probably have to do an axle flip kit as well...
