Glove box light options

I purchased a glove box light kit from Brothers a couple years ago. Its been sitting in a corner since I received it. I just can't bring myself to install it. The quality just does not look like something that would have been acceptable in the 1970's. Also, the kit places the bulb attached to the switch in the corner of the box that is reduced in area for AC duct work. This would shadow the open area of the box making the light nearly worthless in my opinion. The glove box liner has what appears to be a hole for a lamp socket up by the door catch. I am guessing the screw holes for the box door catch would be the attachment point. I've never seen a lamp that would go in this area. How was an original glove box lamp set up?
Any photos or ideas on a better approach than what the aftermarket is offering?

I was not impressed with the quality of the reproduction lights either, so I went with this older style. Still doesn't address the issue of being blocked by the A/C duct notch in the glovebox.

Those all appear to be aftermarket and in a location that would seem to shadow the deeper section of the box. This aftermarket liner indicates to me (small round hole?) there was a lamp separate from the switch but I have never seen one.

I thought that the hole is there to help you pull the box in during installation. Some of the non-ac boxes have the hole also.

Glovebox lights of the 70's were always pretty dim. IF you could find a map without blinding the driver, that's all they were good for anyway.
Wouldn't be tough to just install the switch and run wires to relocate the socket somewhere further over.
Could just stick a short strip of LED tape up there out of sight and run the leads back into the switch. It'd work 5x better than any 70's glovebox light I ever saw

Interesting idea. I have a switch I think will fit that looks better than the cheepo aftermarket one I have. I also found a light on Amazon that I might be able to cut a hole and attach to the cardboard box.
The tape is interesting and a good back up idea if the parts from Amazon don't meet my expectation.
